REPUBLICAN BRIEFS
LD22PC Larry Sorenson: I want to thank you for the dedication and professionalism with which you publish the Briefs. With the exception of continuing articles by office seekers, your Briefs are an astonishing collection for those who want to objectively evaluate items of importance. Use them. I look forward to each update and read it front to back.Thank you so much for your work. It is appreciated.
Activist Nancy Nancy Plencner: Flawed; GOP Establishment's Senate Wannabes: As they circle for Jeff Flakes senate seat, several establishment R's are smacking their lips in anticipation of becoming the new Senator from Arizona. Each brings a set of baggage...not one of them the perfect candidate. CD2 Congresswoman Martha McSally, who has been a good fit for her competitive Tucson District, is not considered on the side of Trump’s agenda. With her hat firmly tossed in the ring, (R) Dr. Kelli Ward loudly proclaims she is the only TRUE conservative in the race. The former state senator from Lake Havasu is supported by a wide range of Republicans including heavy hitter Steve Bannon. But behind the curtains it's well known most think Ward cannot beat (D) Congresswoman Krysten Sinema and most would welcome another choice. Former Congressman John Shadegg, a blast from the past has conservative credentials, a well-known Republican family name but no one has heard from Shadegg since he left Congress nearly seven years ago. Former Congressman Matt Salmon, who has a great position at ASU should seriously consider keeping his day job....former Congressmen are a dime a dozen. Salmon said his reason for leaving Congress a couple of years ago was "to spend more time with his family", so do it. Jay Heiler, a Symington acolyte and Arizona Capitol rail bird is so far out of the Senatorial league and serious contention that his candidacy is laughable (Sorry Gov Brewer). Speaking of Govs, Doug Ducey is dragging around some serious baggage. The teacher's network is livid with him. While doling out little to no teacher's pay raise our Gov fattened the pay envelopes of his staff, so it’s fair to question whether he can even be reelected. Now comes Robert Graham, former Arizona State Republican Party Chairman who during his time as the face and voice of Arizona Republicans presided over the huge split in the Republican party. Graham was bruised and bloodied effectively making it hard for him to run and win a statewide Primary.
So, what shouldhappen? Dr. Kelli Ward, should receive a Presidential invitation to the Oval Office at which time President Trump would offer her something intriguing enough in DC to take her away from Arizona. Trump clearing the field would effectively pry Arizona State Treasurer (R) Jeff DeWit off the fence that he has been straddling for several months. Then with full steam ahead the previously successful statewide candidate could proceed to capture the Republican primary and as an early Trump supporter with Presidential help and national money to match what the DNC will spend has a shot at beating Democrat Sinema.
Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: Taken from the MCRC Briefs“A Bean Counter Points Out: “So, the real story here, from a numbers perspective, is that of the 14,643 new voters registered in Arizona, 4,594 registered as Republican or roughly 30%, while the number of NPP escalated to more than 57% of new registrations. The Republicans are no longer fighting Democrats in AZ registration totals, as it has been trending more and more that voters who are registering are simply not choosing Republican or Democrat, but rather, are going their own way, with consciously selecting ‘no party preference’." See 10-27-17-briefs.html Secretary of State Michele Reagan has announced the number of registered voters in AZ has increased 14,643- to more than 3.6 million active voters.”
WHY??? What is the advantage of being registered as a Republican?? In the past one had to be a registered Republican to vote in the primary election for a Republican candidate but could vote in the general election for the candidate of choice. Now with the ‘open’ primary election, any registered voter can vote for anyone. If one wants to be involved in ‘grass roots’ politics and do the groundwork for the party, fine! Then they can become a Precinct Committeeman, circulate petitions, register voters, and other duties. But for the masses of the registered Republican voters, what advantage or support is there from the AZ GOP to being a registered Republican??? With a one man show running the state organization and a majority of the County Chairmen (who have purview over the Precinct Committeemen) too laid back to do anything state wise worthwhile; the PCs just to do the groundwork with no voice to do anything. What does the AZ GOP have to offer the registered Republican voters??? Actually, less that one third of the authority for PCs is filled! Why aren’t more of the registered Republicans interested in becoming a PC??? Shut up, sit down, and do as I say! And, “Oh look how important I am, I’m a chairman!” There has been information about PC training, but until the County Chairmen are given control of the executive committee and recognition, communication, and responsibilities are written into the state bylaws for PCs, not much, if anything, will change.
Well, we have McCain and Flake representing the voters of the state and a group of RINOs representing the AZ GOP so we must be in a position to welcome NPP (or Independents) if they are conservatives.
Arizona Citizens Defense League Update: We thank everyone who attended AzCDL's 12th Annual Meeting of Members. You made it a huge success! Over 400 AzCDL members and their guests filled the meeting room. Because almost everyone was armed (a condition we insist on in our contracts with any hotel that hosts our meetings) it was probably the safest place to be in the entire state of Arizona. Special thanks go to our small army of dedicated volunteers who managed everything from registration to the silent auction and everything in between. We could not have done this without you. For those not able to attend, Charles Heller, AzCDL's media maven and our annual meeting Master of Ceremonies, recorded the event. We have posted key portions of his recordings of the meeting at our annual meeting page (scroll near the bottom). Speakers this year included:
· Dave Kopp, AzCDL President
· David Hardy, Keynote Speaker
· Arizona State Representative Mark Finchem
· Arizona State Senator Steve Smith
· Dr. Kelli Ward, candidate for the U. S. Senate
Next year, our annual meeting will be held in Phoenix. These alerts are a project of the Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL), an all-volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan grassroots organization.

Don’t forget that Arizona’s Anti-Proxy Petition is available for electronic signatures, according to spokesman Archie Dicksion. The petition requests legislators to amend ARs16—828 to prohibit political party members from carrying unlimited proxies for business meeting. Grassroots wants proxies limited to two per person per meeting, according to Dicksion. To put a stop to practice of bell cows carrying 20-40 proxies, click on Proxie petition. Complete the information on the form, then click on the signature block and you can sign on your computer by using the mouse or on your Iphone, or android by using your finger. Please contact your elected legislative representative Legislative Member Roster to let them know you would like the legislation amended to limit the use of proxies at District, County and State Meetings.
