Upon receiving the second call letter, Briefs noticed an error on the LD13 business agenda. Not knowing if the agenda error could create an election problem, Briefs sent a note to Lines, AZGOP Matt Kennedy, LD13 Second Vice-chair Matt King, and LD13 Secretary Karri King on Dec 20, alerting them that under “new business” the enclosed LD13 agendas for the LD13 Special meeting (election of officers) and the Senatorial elections both read “Election of State Senate Candidates.” The 6:30 pm LD election is actually to elect a new chairman and vice chairman, to replace officers who have resigned. As of post time, none of the four responded.
As the week progressed, Briefs learned that in the last minute rush before Christmas, some PCs had tossed out their call letter postmarked Dec 18 – thinking it was junk mail because there was no AZGOP logo on the envelope. Others, who opened the envelope containing nine pages of information/instructions, etc, didn’t see that the heavy envelope included separate proxies for the two separate meeting. Others thought one proxy covered both meetings. Some didn’t notice the change of venue although the location was bold faced in the call letter.
Some feel setting the second meeting between Christmas and New Year’s couldn’t be worse timing due to the start of the New Year’s Eve weekend parties and some PCs being out of town. Others have a houseful of holiday company. Some had prior festivities planned for that evening.
And questions circulate. Who wants to squeeze in 5 pm political meeting in the midst of the holidays??? Will they get a quorum? Will this become another attempt to further purge conservative candidates from a leadership role in the already divided-district? Will this election result in a so-called “Mormon Mafia” take over as reportedly happened in Yuma and Navajo counties?
Which brings us to the candidates? LD13 PCs need to pay attention to the qualifications of those running for the appointment to replace State Senator Steve Montenegro, who resigned to go for Trent Franks US House seat. Just prior to Christmas, Ray Kouns, Sinn Kerr, Joanne Osborne tossed their competitive hats into the ring with already announced Trey Terry and Brent Backus. Diane Landis has withdrawn from the appointment list. Some believe she didn’t have a chance after losing both of her prior House and Senate races. Others speculate the game plan is for Landis to urge her supporters toward Osborne tomorrow night, then team up with Osborne for the 2018 primary.
Three candidates will be elected to forward to the Board of Supervisors (BOS) for selection. Which ones will make the best senator? Do LD13 really know anything about any or all of these nominees? Which ones will vote with the Dems on major issues including transportation, budgets, education, gun owner’s rights, etc. If the candidate has held public office - check their voting record. No matter what they may say - in an effort to get your vote, voting records are very telling. City council members or school board members, who are anxious to move up the political ladder but have a reputation for spending money like it’s going out of style, will do the same thing as legislators. Example: Check out your water rates in comparison to surrounding areas.
Who will make the best leader? Briefs does not endorse candidates, but when it comes to leadership, it is apparent that the 31 year-old Trey Terry’s leadership abilities rise to the top. The former combat veteran – an Army Cavalry Scout - was stationed along the DMZ in Korea for a year. He also spent more than a year in Iraq where his recon platoon performed over 100 time-sensitive raids to capture high-ranking Al Qaeda, Hezbollah and Iranian-backed military insurgents – with a 91% success rate. That alone indicates he has the cajones to deal with the mischief down at the capitol in Phoenix. In August, he teamed up with LD13 grassroots conservative House member Darrin Mitchell for the 2018 primary. If the LD13 RINOs prevent him from making the list of three to go to the BOS, their appointee incumbent will face the Mitchell/Terry team in the primary. Word has it that LD13 House member Don Shooter, who is currently under sexual harassment investigation, plans to run for again for his former senate seat in the 2018 primary, as well.. Everything considered, tomorrow night’s LD13 elections should prove quite interesting. - ft

Grassroots Republicans are urged to sign Archie Dicksion’s Proxy Petition To Curb Proxy Abuse Http://Bit.Ly/2rzg2w8. When signing the petition, you have two choices, total ban or limit to two per person. There has been great concern over the use of proxies the past five or years or more to control elections at both the AZGOP and Maricopa County Republican Mandatory meeting held every January. Complaints have been voiced for several years of “Bell Cows” carrying up to 40 proxies for PCs who rarely, if ever attend meetings. Opponents of the excessive use of proxies say the misuse and abuse of proxies has resulted in the cleansing of conservative grassroots Republicans from leadership roles a at the district, county and state level by RINOs or McCainites. Identical Anti-Proxy House Bills have been introduced to limit the use of proxies to control internal AZGOP elections, particularly at the annual January county and state mandatory meetings. LD23 Rep Michelle Ugenti-Rita introduced HB2012 and LD23 Rep Jay Lawrence introduced HB2029.

The Sun City West Republican Club is planning an 8:30 am., Jan 6 Candidate Forum for the Supt of Public Instruction candidates at the Foundation Building, 14465 W RH Johnson Blvd in Sun City West. Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZ GOP: It is so nice to hear people who are working in the stores that I have been shopping in say "Merry Christmas" while looking me in the eye with a smile on their face. When it was just last Christmas that the same people were mumbling "Happy Holidays" with eyes downcast. So, to all Never- Trumpers I ask that you chalk up, maybe another HUGE accomplishment for the Commander-In-Chief. IMHO he has definitely made this Christmas something to celebrate. AZGOP officers will no longer be able to ignore the bylaws with impunity, if the New Proposed AZGOP Bylaws are passed at the (January 2018) Mandatory Meeting. Simply stated, these new bylaws restore control of the party to the members of the state committee, as originally intended, and prevent leadership from becoming lawless. This open fact of confrontation that media types like to promote serves but one purpose answering only to their end game….meeting their daily deadlines. Why? To keep their pay checks coming. So why bother to listen or look at commentaries harvested that neither meets nor advances one’s physical, mental, moral or well being? Such reporting is much to do about nothing. Senate Chaplain Dr. Barry Black brings weekly Bible teachings for Congressional leaders and staff choosing to attend. Both men of color are strong family men dedicated to Constitutional Principles that makes our Nation strong and secure under God’s dominion as the Founders so intended it to be. PTL

Russell Sias, La Paz County Republican Chairman - We’re Being Duped! Part 6: Obviously, the state party cabal reads these Briefs! (Thanks, Frosty, for all you do!) Guess what! The bylaws are back on the state party web site. They now have to be downloaded via a PDF file, but at least they’re back. Let me again address this bylaws committee and its official function(s). What is actually the official vs. intended function of this bylaws committee? Some thoughts:
1. Those bylaws submitted directly to the bylaws committee should never see the light of day. Some have stated, as has happened in the past with resolution committee reports, they are subject to outright rejection by this redundant bylaws committee.
2. Bylaw committee members are being sworn to secrecy, even signing a confidentially agreement. They are not even free to communicate with one another outside their official bylaw committee meetings. Who’s to say that whatever report the committee chair sends to the body at the next meeting, is anywhere near legitimate, as to what really happened in these “confidential” and secret meetings?
3. Chairman Lines certainly has the right to create a committee. To name it whatever he wants. However, naming it DOESN’T make it a legal bylaws committee. It makes it a suspect committee. STILL with NO AUTHORITY to accept bylaw submissions, no right to consider them, not to pass judgment on them; nor even to submit a report to the body about their bylaw committee actions or recommendations. What then, is the real purpose? We should be asking! Duplicate, or perhaps duplicitous?
4. Read Article 1, B. Recognize what is spelled out, per the current bylaws process. It is to have the secretary include ALL submitted bylaw changes in the call letter for the next meeting. NOWHERE in our existing amendment process, does our bylaws allow for any “monitoring” committee involvement, let alone does it give anyone authority to pass judgment on appropriate bylaw change submissions to our secretary. Like it or not!
Instead of the party being led where the current ruling cabal thinks it should be going, it is my hope that, through already legally proposed bylaw changes, our leadership can guide the party where its members want it to be led. Link to my bylaws proposal: https://www.speakupsaveamerica.com/
