NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing

randy MillerLD21 Senate candidate Randy Miller: Rick Gray was appointed, not elected, to the LD21 Senate seat. Contrary to his statement at the March 15 LD21 meeting, that I am running “against” him, I am not. It is NOT his "Seat." The seats in each of the LD's belong to the people of the legislative districts for them to choose who they want. I am running because I believe I can do a better job at standing up for and supporting our U.S. and our State Constitutions. I have experience that Rick doesn’t that make me uniquely qualified.

Concerning the National Popular Vote, or HB 2456 - unfortunately, there seems to be nonchalant attitude towards our Sovereignty as a state. Rick Gray, suspecting I was going to bring it up, Rick Gray sen 21attempted to minimize his support and co-sponsoring the bill, stood up and stated he now believes it was a mistake to support it. He then says in a flippant manner, "I made a mistake, we all make mistakes. Hasn't anyone here made a mistake?" Well, this brought a round of laughter and agreement from some of the PC's. The NPV is no laughing matter and must be taken seriously. Rick's support, and lack of knowledge, violated the constitution. How can someone be so flippant about our laws, while campaigning to be your legislator? He took an oath four times and is not a rookie legislator. This is a position of Trust and he violated it. Rick continued to defend the constitutionality of the NPV prior to the meeting. Yet, when I asked him to point to just one authority to support his statement, he said nothing except "they do it all the time, others violate something all the time." So now he is trying to use "precedent" to  show justification? This is what we are fighting in Washington and with the "Deep State".

The National Popular vote is unconstitutional on 3 counts.

     · Article 2 paragraph 1 clearly states how the President will be elected ... by the electoral college. This preserves state sovereignty and gives each state an equal vote in the election. We are not a Democracy, we are a Republic!

     · 2. Article 1 paragraph 10 says: "No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State..."

     · 3. Article 5. States that the Constitution can only be modified by 2/3rds of Congress or 2/3rds of the several states.

HB 2456 is titled: "Relating to the Agreement among the states to elect the president by National Popular Vote”. That alone is evidence. We expect more from an 8-year veteran at the legislature claiming to be a "Constitutional Conservative".

Connie Uribe - Yuma 2017Connie Uribe, Yuma County PC: Thank you, Barbara Medal, for your comments on “Fuhrer Fever” and the disintegration of our youth. My conservative teenage cousin in California agreed to participate in an event at his school, promoted as “17 minutes of silence” for the students slain in Florida. There was nothing silent about it. The students spent all the time ranting and raving about gun control. He told me later, “You can’t reason with them. They won’t listen.” We’ve created a society that thinks everything requires a regulation or policy of some kind. Children are obese, so cut down on food portions and take away all sugary drinks in schools. It’s dangerous for kids to play by themselves outdoors, so force them into scholastic sports. Criminals enter campuses, churches and other public buildings with firearms and kill innocent human beings, so outlaw guns. Everyone has to be regulated because no single person is responsible for his own behavior. We go so far as to write policies about how we’re supposed to treat each other with respect, how we’re to avoid conflicts of interest in our business dealings, how we’re not have our fingers in one coffer while we’re managing another. Why do we have to write this stuff down? I remember hearing a lecturer once who said, “There is no such thing as legal ethics or medical ethics. There’s just ethics.”

Briefs recently reported the Corporation Commission adopted a Code of Ethics. Well, bully for them. That and a buck will buy some coffee. They’re really not worth the paper. Why would you write something down that should be intuitive? That’s like documenting “you shall take a breath at least every four seconds.” This is all about going back to basics. We are in control of our lives and the lives of our children. We can teach them right from wrong. We should have learned this from an early age and we should be teaching this at an early age. You don’t lie. You don’t cheat. You don’t steal. And everything we have to regulate our lives we can find in two major works – the Holy Bible and the US Constitution.

timothy Schwartz-Timothy LD30 1 VCLD30 PC Timothy Schwartz: This article was recommended to me. Having never heard of Tablet Magazine, I was cautious. The article starts off the same as a lot of others, but then develops into much more than what the others offer, i.e. the intelligence community using Amazon Cloud to spy on citizens, etc. Long read, but worth every minute! See robert-muellers-beltway-cover-up

Activist Stephen Sivigliano: The photos you see of people running for office are images of their looks 20-30-or even 40 years ago, when they were handsome, fit, and happy. Then after they are elected and we see them as they are now, what a disappointment. Why can't they use photos of themselves that are current and real?

Tia Silva, a senior at Millennium High School, is a registered Republican. This will be her first election to vote. Silva is the first girl to the left of LD13 Sen Tim Dunn (R) of Yuma, who recently was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to replace Don Shooter, who resigned.

Note they are properly dressed and respectful of the lawmakers… no protest signs, no middle finger salutes or other gestures among them. Congrats to these teens who presented themselves as ladies and gentlemen.- And congrats to their parents for teaching them respect and manners. -  ft

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Sol DiCiccio 2Sol Diciccio, City Of Phoenix Councilman: Consolidated Elections –Update: They’re coming! Two very big pieces of news this past week. As many of you know, I have been a leading advocate and voice for consolidated elections – aligning our election calendar at the City with the statewide election dates. Great News! At the most recent Council session we discussed the various plans, and after extensive debate, the Council voted 7-2 to move forward by requesting staff come back with ballot language to move our elections from August (Primary) – November (General) in odd numbered years, to November (Primary) – March (General) in even numbered years. Why March? There were concerns on the Council about the requirement Javan Mesnard LD17 - speaker of housefor Independent voters to request either a Republican or Democrat primary ballot, and while I didn’t think this was as big a concern as many of them did, anything that disenfranchises registered voters who have every legal right to cast a ballot is wrong – our goal is to increase turnout, not suppress it – so I went with the motion on the table. November – March will still give far more voters a chance to weigh in on our elections. And that’s something we should all be cheering. The second piece of news is potentially even better. State Lawmakers have also introduced a bill – which I support – that would require Phoenix (and every other City in Arizona) to use the standard even-numbered year elections in August and November. HB2604 is sponsored by Rep. J.D. Mesnard. The bill is currently on its second reading in the Senate, and looks to have a good chance at passing. Stand-alone off year elections are just one more way for government insiders to exert their control, after years of pushing, I am thrilled to see progress both are at the City, and in our State government. council.district.6@phoenix.gov 602-262-7491
