CALL TO ACTION

Action Alert!Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL), Per a recent article in the Capitol Times, it's not all rainbows and unicorns with Governor Ducey's gun grabbing proposals.  The article reveals that Democrats are unhappy that the Gov Doug Ducey 2015 2Governor's proposals don't go far enough.  They want you disarmed and they want it right now.  Many Republicans are on our side but the Governor's office is putting tremendous pressure on them to support the Governor's proposals. As this was being written, we learned that the Governor is holding back on the introduction of any legislation until next week.  A big factor in that decision may be because of all the millionaire funded and professionally managed anti-rights rallies scheduled for this Saturday, with one of them occurring at the Arizona Capitol. We cannot let an emotion-based protest determine the outcome of a policy debate.  With the over 17,000 emails you have sent, we have the attention of the Legislature.  That's our strength.  It's time for another round.  We have updated the letter to your legislators.  Warm up your keyboards and click on the link below to send a new email to your legislators.  Keep the pressure on!  We have a chance to stop this train wreck from happening. Click here to send your email

AZ Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) is calling for voters to oppose Governor Doug Ducey’s proposed legislation regulation gun control in Arizona. Click here to send your emailYour legislators need to hear from you, letting them know that you are paying attention and expecting them to support your rights. Send your email today!

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing

Activist Don Langlois: Well, I've made it this far. This was a long way from being "a piece of cake."  I was discharged from the hospital, but I could hardly take much more than a few steps. And was it ever painful, and that was after blocking the major nerve which in itself hurt like hail Columbia!  So now it is Friday.  The pain has subsided a bit.  Friday morning (today) I went to physiotherapy.  My PT trainer said I did well, and I am scheduled to see him three days a week.  My surgeon's assistant called me this afternoon to see how I was doing because I called the CORE office this morning expressing my unhappiness over the aftermath from my surgery. So that is where I stand now.  Anyway, I thank you for your prayers. Keep up the good work; I'm still not better.

Phil Francis, Retired Chairman & CEO, PetSmart: On behalf of John Whiteman, Reg Ballantyne III, Mike Brewer, and myself, I want to applaud Arizona State Representative Doug Coleman and State Senator Kate Brophy McGee, as well as Speaker J.D. Mesnard, President Steve Yarborough, and the entire leadership of the state legislature for protecting over $650 million in revenue for our schools and avoiding the fiscal cliff of Prop 301's expiration. Now the business and education community must focus its efforts on expanding the education funding pie after we work to get Governor Ducey re-elected this Fall. We continue to be vocal supporters of Governor Ducey’s vision for investing in teacher pay, full day kindergarten, K-12 capital and the other priorities as articulated two years ago in his 2017 State of the State Address.

· Step #1 to increasing our investment in Arizona’s schools was protecting the funding they already have now. Mission accomplished!

· Step #2 is supporting the great elected leadership who made this $650+ million extension a reality.

· Step #3 expanding Arizona’s funding pie to 1.5 in 2020.

See Coleman’s Arizona Republic: My Turn - permanently-Extend-Proposition-301-Education-Tax-2018 Today, we celebrate the hard work of all those who made this significant legislation possible, and once again, thank the teachers who are working hard, every day, to educate Arizona’s children!

Dale GohrDale Gohr of Clarkdale: The old adage “Be careful what you wish for; you just may get it” has seen some horrendous history of erroneous public opinion; but this “National Popular Vote Leviathan; is a Monster of epic or classic proportions”. Please think this thru; before you settle on voting to get involved in any ‘Multi-State Coalition’ or on any referendum to accept Presidential Elections on the basis of ‘Popular Vote Only’. It is a well-planned T R A P.“Points to Ponder” and then go into some History:

· If you are a Politician looking for nothing but votes; where would you find your highest number of votes? Of course, the densely populated areas of Big Cities and high population States.

o Do you think that type voter will help perpetuate or enhance prosperity?

o A Presidential Politician could concentrate on about six ‘States’ and make enough phony promises to overwhelm the competition.

· How long do you think farms, factories and their needed infrastructure ie; transportation and warehousing etc. could last on too small a margin?

Now Some Thought And Points About History: Prior to 1913 there was no “Federal Income Tax” and the “State Lawmakers Voted-in and monitored the two United States Senators (alternating 6-year terms) from that State” and “The United States” collected tax proportionately from the States not the individuals. The passage of the 16th and ratification of the 17th Amendments to the Constitution in 1913 effectively destroyed the State’s ability to monitor the expenditure of taxes and the ability of the State Officials to reward or hold their Senators accountable for the Senate activities; the State was cut out of the equation and the Senators were given to Politics and still had the 6-year term of office, which is too long to hold much accountability for their actions. The expanding expenditures and the downward spiral of the United States political integrity really got a foothold with the additional “War Tax” 1941. The pork-barrel spending has spun out of control and I honestly believe most of it would never have happened without the passage of the 16th and especially the 17th Amendments. Today we are facing another “socialistic, totalitarian, New World Order agenda” driven by the people that refuse to realize the danger involved in this “National Popular Vote”, which if enacted contains the ability to turn the United States and some other countries into “Socialistic Nightmares” within about three election cycles. Dear Almighty God; Please do not let that happen!

kelli ward 2018 aUS Senate Candidate Kelli Ward: For seven long years, Mitch McConnellMitch McConnell 2has promised conservatives that repealing Obamacare was his top priority. First he said he couldn't repeal Obamacare because the Democrats controlled the Senate. Conservatives responded by taking to the campaign trail and winning back the Senate in 2014. Then McConnell said he couldn't repeal Obamacare because Obama would just veto it. Now McConnell has control of the Senate under President Donald Trump, and a Republican majority in the House... and Obamacare is still not in the waste bin. What is his excuse now? McConnell had seven years to prepare for this moment and, in the end, he failed us. President Trump was prepared to repeal Obamacare on “day one,” but McConnell failed to send him a bill to sign. Mitch McConnell knows that if I make it to the U.S. Senate, I won't let him get away with lying to conservative voters the way he has for all these years. The future of the conservative movement — and the heart and soul of the Republican Party — is at stake right now. I am counting on you. This race is about so much more than just one U.S. Senate seat. This is a battle over the future of the Republican Party. On one side of this fight, we have Establishment types like Mitch McConnell, Jeff Flake,Jeff Flake portrait and my opponent Martha McSally 3Martha McSally. These are the people who support open borders, amnesty for illegal aliens, and trade deals that serve to benefit their wealthy donors at the expense of the American people.
These people see themselves as "Citizens of the World." They support Hillary Clinton's vision of having a world without borders, where anyone can come to the United States at will. On the other side, we have people like President Trump, Sen. Rand Paul, and myself. We believe in putting America's interests first for a change. We've seen how self-serving and arrogant the D.C. Swamp has become and we are willing to do what's necessary to put a stop to "business as usual" in Washington. I know you’re an "America First” patriot like I am, which is why I am asking for your support today.
It's clear that the Establishment's pick in this race is my opponent Martha "McAmnesty" McSally. Will you help me defeat her Despite McConnell and the Establishment, I'm convinced that together we'll defeat fake conservative Martha McSally, stand for secure borders, and put America First!

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Diane Douglas Supt of EdSuperintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas was on hand at a press conference in support of the city of Glendale’s school safety initiative to significantly increase the level of school resource officer (SRO) support at Glendale’s public high schools. Effective immediately, all of the city’s nine public high schools in four different school districts will have a dedicated Glendale police officer on campus.  “I am delighted to lend my support to the city of Glendale and this incredible initiative,” Douglas said. “There is nothing more important than keeping our children safe and I hope cities throughout Arizona take a page out of Glendale’s playbook and follow suit. I also could not be more impressed that Glendale is going to have these officers ready to serve on campus immediately.” Glendale Police Chief Rick St. John, along with Glendale Mayor Jerry WeiersJerry P. Weiers and City Manager Kevin Phelps, believe that this initiative is necessary in the current climate of increased violent threats against students and teachers. Should there be any threat or incident, the role of the school resource officer will be to provide rapid response capabilities to every public high school within Glendale Police Department’s jurisdiction. “I want to ensure the citizens of Glendale that myself, the City Council, our city management and our police department are committed to keeping our schools and all of our citizens safe,” Weiers said. “Highly trained police officers are exactly what we need in our schools protecting and serving students and staff and that is why we have made the decision to take the lead by taking this action." The implementation of this plan will result in a full-time Glendale police officer on every high school campus in the city. A new dedicated SRO will be on the school grounds for Deer Valley High School, Mountain Ridge High School, Apollo High School, Glendale High School and Independence High School. Previous assignments of full-time resource officers at Raymond S. Kellis High School, Copper Canyon High School, Cactus High School and Ironwood High School will continue. See initiative https://www.glendaleaz.com/police/.

Clint Hickman, #4 Bd of SuperBoard Supervisors Clint Hickman: At our March 7th Formal Board meeting the official canvass results for the special primary election held on February 27th were approved.  Since I represent most of CD-8, I have worked diligently with the Recorder’s office to communicate the needs for our District, especially when it came to the number of polling places.  Overall, the primary election went well given the truncated time frame and I appreciated my request of extra polling places being met.  The Recorder’s office reported processing a total of 531 provisional ballots. Of that number, 447 were determined to be valid (84 invalid) and of those that were valid, 366 were out-of-precinct voters.  You can watch the full presentation here.  We are at the halfway point and have the special general election coming up, you can get more information at CD8electioninformation.aspx No matter your politics, I hope you make your voice heard on April 24, so that CD-8 gets the representation it deserves in our nation’s capital.  - www.maricopa.gov/dist4 602-506-7161

Diane Douglas Supt of EdSuperintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas applauded Governor Doug DuceyGov Doug Ducey 2015 2 and the Arizona Legislature for supporting the passage of legislation to extend Proposition 301. Once signed by the Governor into law, Senate Bill 1390 will effectively replicate the original language of Prop 301 and move the expiration date out to 2041. “I am excited that the Legislature agreed to extend Prop 301 sooner rather than later in order to avoid the looming fiscal cliff,” Douglas said. “Since schools throughout the state rely so heavily on Prop 301 revenues, the funding is essentially baked into their respective budgets. Now that this extension has been passed, I am committed more than ever to increasing teacher salaries and finding new revenue streams for education as quickly as possible.” The Governor indicated that he will sign the new bill into law, preventing the voter-approved 0.6-cent sales tax from expiring in 2021. The new law will also move $64.1 million in additional funding to the classroom site fund, meaning more monies will be available for increasing teacher salaries. Last April, Douglas released her plan to expand Prop 301 monies to a full 1 percent, which if supported by voters would generate $400 million annually for teacher salaries and school buildings, providing nearly $5,000 more in average take-home pay to teachers each year. The expansion would result in an immediate 11 percent raise for teachers and $100 million for school facilities, which could be utilized to help bolster school safety.www.azed.gov.
