REPUBLICAN BRIEFS

LD20 PC and State Committeeman Marianne Ferrari: This is the first in a series of articles reporting what I witnessed at the June 2017 meeting of the AZGOP Executive Committee held in Flagstaff Saturday, June 17th. I've never personally witnessed a more revealing episode in the life of the AZGOP. More and more clearly, we can now understand what is going wrong with our state party... What's Going Wrong With AZGOP? Part 1: Armageddon Over Conservative Motions At EX Comm

Teresa Ottesen Binder:Thank you for helping make Sheriff Arpaio's birthday amazing. This was truly a celebration to remember! Thank you, Leao Gitirana from Defenzia for providing the raffle item for the evening. The new M11 for civilian use is a multipurpose firearm that will become a game changer in both law-enforcement and civilian defense. A big thank you to the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas for providing an amazing banquet room. The birthday party would have not been possible without Dave & Liza Alcorn, Cyndi Love, Alex & Robert Meluskey, and Tom & Kris Morrissey.

Activist James Alberts: I understand Congressman DavidSchweikert cancelled a town hall meeting for security reasons. Can police officers cancel or refuse to answer calls for security reasons, after all they took the same oath as Schweikert did. Its time Schweikert, Flake and Song Bird stand up and support our president, and honor the oath of office or resign .

In An Effort To Get AZ State Treasurer Jeff DeWit to run for US senate against incumbent Jeff Flake, DeWit fans are distributing 6x9 inch “We Want Jeff DeWit for US Senate post cards reading: Dear President Trump, We need your help for our state and country! Jeff DeWit is the only true conservative that can defeat Jeff Flake! The primary race is already too crowded and in Arizona there is no runoff, so the incumbent can take advantage of a crowded race. If you appointed Kelli Ward to live in DC & bury her deep in the bureaucracy, conservatives across Arizona will mobilize to help DeWit become our next senator with your assistance. Please help us help your issues with a great Senator DeWitt on board.

Arizona Project moved it’s June 19 meeting to June 22 to accommodate “See Something, Say Nothing” author Philip B Haney, who is a founding member of the Dept of Homeland Security/Border Protection and the recipient of an inaugural American Freedom Award. AP will gather at 3375 E Shea Blvd. in Phoenix to hear Haney, according to Chairman Ron Ludders. 602.677.1496

The Grassroots Tea Party Activist will meet with Internet investigator Brad A. Heward at 6:30 pm., Wed., June 21 at Denny’s Restaurant Meeting Room, 9030 N. Black Canyon Hwy, Access Rd, Dunlap Ave exit off the I-17.

Bret Roberts, City of Maricopa Constable, has filed campaign paperwork for the LD11 House seat that Vince Leach will be leaving to run for Steve Smith’s State Senate seat. Roberts is a conservative Republican whose business and law enforcement background will come in handy as he works to make Arizona as prosperous and safe as possible. “The goal is a state with a robust economy, a steady stream of employers moving in, and our existing employers growing. We want strong schools and safe neighborhoods to ensure a high quality of life. And we want a state that is nationally recognized for its defense of liberty and individual rights.” said Roberts, adding “Arizona is certainly well on its way, now we need to defend the progress we’ve made and continue advancing common-sense conservative solutions.” Roberts will be running as a team with State Representatives Vince Leach and Mark Finchem. “Having Steve Smith, Vince Leach, and Mark Finchem at the Capitol has been great for our district, and they’ve set the bar very high in terms of their voting record and constituent service,” he said. Roberts has lived in Arizona for nearly 15 years. He and his wife have three grown children. Roberts has a dual background in mortgage financing and law enforcement, where he worked as a County Sheriff’s Detention Officer. He was elected Constable in 2014 and will complete his term in 2018, in time for the 2018 elections. He has volunteered for groups like For Our City Maricopa, F.O.R. Food Bank, and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. He is pro-life, pro-family, pro-school choice, pro-secure borders, pro-2nd Amendment, and pro-taxpayer.

LD23 PC Gina Swoboda: We are cleared for takeoff as we continue to do Voter Registration sans MCRO certification (thank you Secretary Regan, thank you legislature). Thank you so so much everybody. I will continue to engage in this process.

Peg Kragie of Maricopa County Recorder’s Office to Swoboda: Checked on your question to be sure, since all of this is new:

      a) Anyone can do Voter Registration on their own  (I believe it is a statute)

     b) Our new process, Citizens Academy, has the following benefits (for you and the Recorders Office):

- Individual will be Certified as a Deputy Registrar – (after Orientation and a Dep Reg class)-  an Affiliate of the Recorder and Elections office; can be involved in Recorder’s Office official Registration events (like the Naturalization Ceremonies), and others that we schedule

- Can determine what other classes they want to complete for other roles of the Academy (Board worker, Special Board worker) – with these classes the individual qualifies to do other election work at our Ballot Centers (re: Polls), and at our Elections Processing center, MCTEC before, during and/or after elections.

      c) The Recorder’s Office strongly suggests that all who register voters, and want to work the elections, go through our Orientation and Deputy Registrar training (2 hrs each). It is good grounding for all election work.

     d) When I said “Redundant” – I meant the basics of the Reg Form will be covered. There is other information that goes a bit deeper and covers some of the nuances that “pop-up” when registering voters.

All the details of the above are covered in the Orientation.

The Family Health Talk Show will highlight two life-saving discussions at 10 am., Thurs., June 22 on Radio Station – KXXT 1010 AM, Online – www.familyvaluesradio1010.com , Call-in 602.977-1010. CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

(300 word limit. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited)

Congressman Paul Gosar: Just the Facts: ObamaCare is Generational Theft

Congressman Paul Gosar: This week, I was pleased to see the House Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies release their appropriations bill and include a provision I authored to mandate that the Veterans Crisis Line provide an immediate response from a trained professional when veterans contact this suicide hotline. This provision, which was also included in the base text of last year’s appropriations bill and subsequently signed into law, provides our nation’s heroes with a lifeline during their darkest hours. 50 other colleagues signed onto my effort this year and requested this provision be included in fiscal year 2018 bill. I am thankful for their support and attention on this important issue. In February of last year, the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General (IG) released Report No. 14-03540-123, an investigation into concerns raised about the Veterans Crisis Line. That report produced some troubling findings including “that some calls routed to crisis backup centers went into a voicemail system and that the Veterans Crisis Line and backup center staff did not always offer immediate assistance to callers…These incidents involved responders allegedly ending calls without providing assistance, inappropriately transferring calls, and telling callers to contact another organization…In addition, [the IG] found that callers could be placed on hold in a backup center queue or be passed through several backup centers for an unknown period of time, which could account for the perception that the calls were not answered.” The full text of the bill can be found HERE. The Veterans Crisis Line language I wrote can be found on page 58, Section 235.

Congressman Paul Gosar: In response to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kelly’s rescission of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program:“Ending the DAPA program is a long overdue victory for the Rule of Law and our Constitution,” stated Congressman Gosar. “This amnesty program was yet another example of gross overreach by an out-of-control Obama Administration that trampled on the clear jurisdiction of Congress. One of the hallmarks of our Constitutional Republic is the separation of powers among the branches of our government. When President Obama took action by executive fiat in defiance of Congress, it was an affront to every bedrock principle of this country and opened the door to further expand a monolithic federal regime. “I applaud Secretary Kelly and President Trump for rescinding this lawless program and their stalwart commitment to upholding the Constitution and heeding the will of the people. The list of federal judges, states and Members of Congress who have long-opposed the DAPA program is long and I am pleased that we can finally report a victory on this matter. However, our work is not done and we still need to rescind other lawless Obama immigration policies. The Central American Minors (CAM) program and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program should be the next two amnesty schemes, created by the Obama Administration without the consent of Congress, terminated by the Trump Administration.”Click HERE to read my full release.

Congressman Paul Gosar: Maude’s and my thoughts and prayers are with Majority Whip Steve Scalise, his wife Jennifer, their children and all those who were impacted by the senseless attack on Wednesday morning. This event is deeply unsettling but I am grateful, yet again, for the swift response by Capitol Police to secure the safety of those involved, particularly the bravery of Officers Crystal Griner and David Bailey. Click HERE or on the image below to watch Speaker Paul Ryan's speech on the shooting.

US Sen John McCain on the death of Otto Warmbier: “I was saddened to learn about the death of Otto Warmbier following his unjust imprisonment and torture in North Korea. I send my heartfelt condolences to Otto’s family and friends as they grieve this tragic loss. Let us state the facts plainly: Otto Warmbier, an American citizen, was murdered by the Kim Jong-un regime. In the final year of his life, he lived the nightmare in which the North Korean people have been trapped for 70 years: forced labor, mass starvation, systematic cruelty, torture, and murder. North Korea is threatening its neighbors, destabilizing the Asia-Pacific region, and rapidly developing the technology to strike the American homeland with nuclear weapons. Now it has escalated to brutalizing Americans, including three other citizens currently imprisoned in North Korea. The United States of America cannot and should not tolerate the murder of its citizens by hostile powers.”

US Sen John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement today on the lack of a strategy in Afghanistan: “After nearly 16 years of war, we are at a stalemate in Afghanistan. Worse, we have no strategy to end that stalemate and achieve victory. The recent deaths of three brave American soldiers underscore the urgency for a new strategy to turn the situation around in Afghanistan. Defense Secretary Mattis testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee last week that we are not winning in Afghanistan. And yet, six months into the new administration, it still has not delivered a strategy. We cannot keep going like this. If the administration fails to develop a strategy for success, Congress will need to play a greater role. We owe it to our brave men and women serving in Afghanistan, their families here at home, and all of the American people.”

US Sen John McCain: "Today’s report by The Arizona Republic showing the Navajo Housing Authority plans to build a series of mobile homes at approximately $300,000 each is the latest example of squandered taxpayer dollars. The fact that the agency was brazen enough to approve a $30.8 million contract without obtaining bids competitively demonstrates a very real need for reform and oversight of NHA's procurement practices. Navajo families are desperate for housing, but that need cannot be met without meaningful reform." On June 1, 2017, Senator McCain’s office released the findings of a three month investigation into allegations of mismanagement at the Navajo Housing Authority (NHA). Among the report’s findings was evidence that the NHA’s efforts to spend down unspent Department of Housing and Urban Development grants lacked proper planning and oversight, which invites high risk of waste, fraud and abuse. The report can be found here.
