Shooter Suspended As Appropriations Chair Over Harassment Allegations

Legislation Calling For Rep. Don Shooter's Resignation

Editor’s Note:Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words.

LD26/State Committeeman Joe Neglia: Just heard a radio program (Seth & Chris Show on 960 AM) where LD18 PC/SC Peggy McClain gave an eloquent explanation of some AZGOP shenanigans involving the replacement of four state committeemen.  Apparently LD18 has four vacant SC slots due to moves, and has been trying since August to get these positions filled. Unfortunately, they seem to be running into stonewalling by AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines and Exec Dir Matt Kenney.  Listen to the whole story here (skip to minute 33): thesethandchrisshow/november-10-2017-hour-1

Political Activist Lolly Hathhorn:  “It seems that all the RINOs are out in force to get Judge Roy Moore out before the general election.  Correct me if I’m wrong but, as long as I can remember, isn’t the person innocent until PROVEN guilty?  John McCain (he is without sin) and Jeff the ‘Flake’ (tooth commercial man) just can’t keep their mouths shut!  These are allegations against Judge Moore and I don’t think he has been charged with anything except malicious accusations.  I think that the ‘old, gray-headed white guy’ to quote Paris Hilton, needs to step down and let a real Republican take his place in the Senate.  Mr. McTraitor (who can’t stop being critical of my President TRUMP) needs to keep his mouth shut, stay home and not annoy us ever again.  Where is the outrage in all of this from the so-called conservatives of the GOP?  Man Up and get this man out of the way and let’s get on with the business of AMERICA FIRST!  God Bless America, our Troops, my President Donald J. Trump and all of the real Republicans.  Frosty, thank you for naming names in the AZ Legislature scandal.  Let’s also talk about the guy that drinks so much.  Let’s get ALL the names out there.  We, the voters, have a right to know what is going on at the Capitol!  Again, thanks for your wonderful reporting – just the facts mam.”

PC Myrna Lieberman - Founder of Mobilization of Conservatives: Is the Republican Party being run by the Voters or the Elites? Please listen to this radio show dated 11.10.17, which is hour 1 of The Seth and Chris Show (960 AM, The Patriot Channel in Phoenix): thesethandchrisshow/november-10-2017-hour-1… Scroll to 33:25 mark. The radio caller talks about how Arizona State Chairman Jonathan Lines of Arizona is apparently refusing to follow Republican State Statutes.   State Committeemen are elected by Precinct Committeemen but the Chairman is taking it upon himself to appoint them. This is reported to be happening in Chandler, Tempe, and Prescott. The thought is that perhaps the Chair is trying to save himself from removal. The question is whether this is an attempt to purge Conservative P.C’s from the party?  Also see john-mccain:arizona-tea-party which is about  Senator John McCain and the Arizona GOP

Activist Mark Lewis: As backers of Dark Money disclosures ask for sunshine into 50% of funding sources via the ballot measure proposed this week, we need disclosure and sun shine on the dark money funneled into liberal groups hiding as non-profit foundations. Here is a list of non-profits donors-anti-trump-resistance-group-revealed/used to funnel $18 million into the anti-Trump campaigns that needed full disclosure. As liberals go to the ballot seeking disclosure of dark money, lets demand AZ House Republicans force disclosure of liberal non-profits that funnel millions into campaigns by illegal use of a 501 c 3 non-profit. The Tax returns showing Hillary and George Soros donations using non profits is attached.

Bill Beard– AZGOP CD2 Member-at-Large: As the original author of the Resolution regarding paper ballots recently passed by LD 14 I need to clarify a few things. First, the intent of the resolution is to state the position of the members of the state party on the basic premise of election integrity. Secondly I do not suggest nor imply that the elections of the current officers were not done in accordance with the proper rules and oversight. However the past several cycles of officer elections and national convention delegate elections raises serious questions about how the party should proceed.
All too many want to exchange speed and ease for integrity and verifiable results. Since when did Republicans make such a devil's bargain? The end result of utilizing electronic voting for our party elections simply speeds the day when they are the norm for all elections. To those that believe that electronic voting is the best means of determining the results of an election quickly, I would remind you that results that cannot be independently verified are not the foundation upon which a representative form of government is built.  We take our name from that very form of self-government. When someone places a mark on a ballot we can all argue where the mark was made. The average person will agree that a mark was made. Why should the results of a party election be reduced to ones and zeroes on a computer chip that no programmer can ever definitively determine who placed those ones and zeroes on the chip?  Separation of Powers and Checks and Balances were and are the cornerstones of self-government. Do we choose a voting method open to scrutiny or leave it to the computer programmers to divine the results?
The issues raised by choosing paper over electronic voting will not be solved by simply requiring a paper ballot. But it does take a step closer to building and sustaining faith that the results of any election speak with the true voice of the voters. It is my hope that by supporting the Resolution the AZ GOP will speak with a voice that makes it clear that integrity of the process is just as important as the results themselves. I would also point out that the State of Virginia just this fall decertified ALL electronic voting equipment in their state.

One final note... As of today LD 9 has passed my Resolution unanimously. LD 2 passed the Resolution by majority present. I believe LD 3, 10 and 11 have the issue before their members in the coming month. While some may choose to ignore the issue. Some parts of the state may continue to utilize electronic voting as they see fit. Given that when we meet as a state party we do so under some scrutiny would it not make more sense to do our voting where any and all can see? Below is the original Resolution. LD's may modify as they deem appropriate. This language is the language I have submitted for a vote at the January meeting.

Bill Beard’s Original Resolution

· Whereas Elections are the foundation upon which a representative form of government is built, every action of government reflects the will of the votes on Election Day by the representative they choose or by ratifying the process by which we choose those representatives.

· Whereas the Right to Vote is a universal constant, the faith in the result of the voting process is not. Whereas the security and validity of the voting process is key to maintaining the faith in our course of self-government, the paper ballot cast by a voter in person on Election Day is the best means of determining the true will of the voters. Electronic or other computerized means of voting results in less trust and more confusion about the results of any election. The paper ballot is the only tried and true means for auditing and verifying the will and intent of the voter.

· Whereas the Republican Party takes its name from this form of self-governance, it is only natural and right that the Party must maintain the highest levels of security in all voting. Whereas electronic or paperless voting leaves open the door to tampering and calls into question the results of any election utilizing these other means,

· Be it Resolved that the Republican Party shall utilize a system of paper ballots in all elections in the Party process be they internal to the Party structure or external in determining representatives of the Party at all levels. – Beard can be reached at (520) 419-2757 wglbeard@hotmail.com

LD13 PC John Powelson: The problem with the MCSO Arpaio/Sheridan and the upper management at the Sheriff’s office wasn’t that they didn’t understand law enforcement. The problem is that they didn’t understand the role the Sheriff is supposed to play as a “Constitutionally” elected official of the State and protector of the People within his jurisdiction. The Deputies, in most cases of large counties like Maricopa, are the ones who actually go out into the field and have direct contact with the “perpetrators, convicts, detainees, suspects, witnesses, transients and citizens in the county. The problem encountered with Arpaio and Penzone was a result of the service they have rendered and the fact that in the case of federal employees are told the Federal Government is superior to the State. City employees, like Saban or Penzone, believe it is all policy controlled. The odds are that like Arpaio, Gonzales would defer to the Feds to the detriment of State Law and Arizona citizens. Arpaio and Sheridan first granted Federal Jurisdiction then proceeded to resist the court orders associated with it, Sheridan on camera. My point is that it is likely the best Sheriff would be one that follows the Constitutions of the USA and Arizona as sworn to and not those who have been inculcated by years of “law enforcement” habits and procedure formed by those who know not the documents or meaning of the oath they have taken to defend these Constitutions.

Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZGOP To Brian Reilly Former PC LD 22: Let me assure you that my assessment of retired Chief Deputy Sheriff Sheridan, as a possible candidate for sheriff is based on my opinion of him, which is based on my experience as a career law enforcement officer and also, as Chairman of the AZ GOP.  I know many people who have served under him and Sheriff Arpaio and they all, to a person, sing his praises.  That fact, to me, is a strong indication of someone who has strong leadership abilities. As you may not know, with those of us who have carried a badge, there is a bond which is created by trust in our fellow officers.  That trust extends up to leadership and I have seldom seen that degree of trust, which is embodied in the men and women of the MCSO who have served under Chief Sheridan and Sheriff Arpaio, exhibited more strongly elsewhere. And you cite Channel 12 News as your basis for your criticism of Chief Sheridan?  Come on Brian Reilly Former LD 22 PC, when was the last time they presented an unbiased report on any conservative?

What is needed as sheriff in Maricopa County is someone who isn't tearing down the great organization that was put in place by Joe Arpaio.  Someone who believes in enforcing the law and who does not believe in open borders. Chief Sheridan has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the person for this job.  He stood firm and unwavering alongside the Sheriff as they weathered many storms brought upon their agency by a biased liberal machine while they tried to do the job they were sworn to do.  He is without a doubt the person we need and would be lucky to have as Sheriff. Again, Brian Reilly Former LD 22 PC, I base my opinion on my experience as a qualified law enforcement officer who competed for the job through civil service requirements. The same standards achieved by Chief Sheridan as he rose through the ranks of the MCSO from deputy up to Chief Deputy. He experienced every facet of the organization and knows well the challenges therein. I question your motives on this since you have no experience in this arena. And I know that you will come back with your usual misinformed response to this, so I will tell you that I won't engage in a public argument with you any further, but will be glad to discuss this with you face to face.  Anytime. Anywhere.
