Bruce M Piepho, Cochise County PC/SC: Some thoughts on unity that we Republicans need to win in 2018. Voters in Arizona must be the ones who decide our party nominates. The democrat POTUS disaster of 2016 serves as a reminder of what happens when a few people in a back room rig a nomination. Republicans in the state party have been guilty of this mistake in the past. My hope is the RNC will never allow that to happen. The DNC helped lose the 2016 elections. THE DNC did not support the democrat state parties pulling support money from the states into the DNC. The old expression follow the money and you find the results. Money = Power = Control could be the elites slogan. The Trump populace support is being ignored by the Republican elites. Disaster is reflected in the recent Virginia state elections. So what is wrong in Arizona?
INTEGRITY LOST =The Arizona Republican Party leadership has ruined whatever integrity it had prior to 2010 mainly by the past Chairman antics in getting involved where he did not belong. The experience must be dismissed. The 2017 statutory elections and state convention were suspect.
The LD14 PCs passed a resolution calling for paper documented elections in AZGOP elections. See below passed in Pima LDs, LD14 and Cochise County Republican Committee. The AZGOP elections resolution should be adopted across the state and presented to Chair Lines for adoption to build trust. I sent the elections resolution to Slaton in Navajo county. He replied his county committee would pass it at their next meeting. So I have sent the elections resolution to the entire list of county/LD officers that I have. The purpose is to get election reform on the mandatory meeting agenda. I hope Chair Lines can resolve problems that fractured the AZGOP integrity by the previous chairman and beginning re-building lost trust. The integrity issue is a difficult one to heal. Elections reform would go help to restore PC confidence in AZGOP integrity. Use of information technology with separation protections from hacking and audit paper trail has been implemented in Cochise County. Party elections - good source of how; Cochise County new technology, ask former state Representative David Stevens current Cochise county recorder. By-law changes are another integrity issue especially to restrict proxy usage to two proxies per person holding at a meeting. Another communication will address proxies.
Arizona Republican Party Elections Resolution
· Whereas, Elections are the foundation upon which a representative form of government is built, every action of government reflects the will of the votes on Election Day by the representative they choose or by ratifying the process by which we choose those representatives; and
· Whereas, the Right to Vote is a universal constant, the faith in the result of the voting process is not; and
· Whereas, the security and validity of the voting process is key to maintaining the faith in our course of self-government, the paper ballot cast by a voter in person on Election Day is the best means of determining the true will of the voters. Electronic or other computerized means of voting results in less trust and more confusion about the results of any election. The paper ballot is the only tried and true means for auditing and verifying the will and intent of the voter; and
· Whereas, the Republican Party takes its name from this form of self-governance, it is only natural and right that the Arizona Republican Party must maintain the highest levels of security in all voting; and
· Whereas, electronic or paperless voting leaves open the door to tampering and calls into question the results of any election utilizing these other means.
· THEREFORE; As leaders in the Arizona Legislative District 14 (LD14), we are obligated to fully support our Party, platform, and its candidates. Thus fair, honest, audit-able elections must be held. That has not happened. So with sadness and humility we rise and declare:
· Be it Resolved that the Arizona Republican Party shall utilize a system of paper ballots in all elections in the Party process be they internal to the Party structure or external in determining representatives of the Party at all levels. By vote in accordance with current LD14 bylaws, the Precinct Committeemen here present in our meeting, the fourth of November, 2017, do so vote our Precinct Committeemen opinion as to our sense of the appropriateness and the timing to require the Arizona Republican Party and is hereby authorized and empowered the LD14 Chair to forward immediately by United States Postal Service a copy of this Resolution to the Chairman and Secretary of said party. So attested by: LD14 Chair Elizabeth Speck on November 4, 2017 and LD14 1st Vice Chair Katie Miller on November 4, 2017.

After Viewing “Only the Brave”, Senate Judy Burges is suggesting a death penalty bill for arson that results in the death of a firefighter is in order. Perhaps the bill should be taken one step further – including the death of anyone from an arsonist set fire should result in the death penalty.- ft
The Terry Brian Foundation will host a dinner fundraiser on Nov 18 in Tucson featuring former Presidential advisor Steve Bannon. The Brian Terry Foundation was formed in the summer of 2012 to assist family members of U.S. Border Patrol Agents killed in the line of duty and award college scholarship monies to students pursuing a career in law enforcement. Brian Terry had served as a U.S. Marine, a local police officer in his home state of Michigan, a U.S. Border Patrol Agent and at the time of his death, a member of the elite U.S. Border Patrol Tactical Unit known as BORTAC. Brian is known as a true American hero who died far too young. His death resulted in the discovery of the secret government gun trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious. Brian's family fought for answers and accountability from government officials for many years. Today, they remain committed to ensuring this type of government misconduct is never repeated. The Brian Terry Foundation allows Brian’s legacy to continue and his memory to live on by helping others. Editor’s Note:Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words.
Former LD22 PC Brian Reilly: In the 11/11-11-17-briefsTom Morrissey wrote, “…I suggest we encourage a True Republican Conservative Gerry Sheridan to run [for Maricopa County Sheriff]. I can't think of anyone better suited for this office.” In my opinion, United States Marshal,David Gonzales would be a winning candidate for the GOP. For those Republicans who have a really short memory, this is what Channel 12 News had to say about former MCSO Chief Deputy Jerry Sheridan: “In recent years, Sheridan came under scrutiny for his role in the Melendres civil rights lawsuit in which a federal judge ruled MCSO violated constitutional rights of citizens and non-citizens. Sheridan was repeatedly shown in court to be at the center of key decisions that eventually resulted in the county being liable for tens of millions of dollars in subsequent legal fees and remedies. A video of Sheridan in 2013 showed him telling a group of deputies and volunteer posse members that the judge’s injunction in the lawsuit was ‘a bunch of crap,’ ‘ludicrous’ and ‘absurd.’ Appellate courts ruled that the injunction was constitutional and Sheridan was compelled to apologize in court for what he described as a lapse of judgement. Sheridan was reprimanded in court by Judge Murray Snow for alleged false statements, reluctance to obey court orders, and for undermining the internal affairs process for which his duties were eventually stripped. At one point Snow wrote, ‘Sheriff Arpaio and Chief Deputy Sheridan have a history of obfuscation and subversion of this court’s orders that is as old as this case…’” college-rescinds-teaching-offer-to-former-arpaio-aide-jerry-sheridan In my opinion, with this kind of track record, selecting Mr. Sheridan as the GOP’s pick for Maricopa County Sheriff would all but guarantee another Democratic victory and their continued control of the MCSO. In my opinion, backing an Arpaio clone is not a viable GOP strategy leading to victory.
