Reports In From Last Night’s LD21 senate nominee election to replace Sen Debbie Lesko reveal that Tony Revero, Jean McGrath and Rick Gray are the nominees. Now it’s up to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to pick one to serve out Leskos’ term. Lesko has resigned to run in the February election to replace former Congressman Trent Franks. With the wide field of candidates trying for Franks congressional seat, things are destined to get interesting over the next few weeks.

Some Folks Are Wondering What Kind Of Attendance the MCR Mandatory meeting will have today, due to the flu epidemic that Arizona is experiencing. Several readers contacted Briefs saying they were not venturing into large crowds of coughing, sneezing, feverish people who probably should be home in bed. Some don’t want a relapse of the flu. Others think low attendance will give the “cow belles” - who carry and vote numerous proxies – total control over voting issues. Other won’t attend because of prior shenanigans.- ft

LD18 PC Dan Schulz: I will have three large bags of popcorn and 20 theater-style popcorn bags with me tomorrow at the MCRC Mandatory Meeting in case you would like to literally eat popcorn during the circus show. I hope to get there by 8:30 am. So seek me out at the LD 18 area. I will have on my white MAGA hat. First come, first served.

PC Ren Ramsey: I submitted a Resolution for conducting all Maricopa County Republican Party elections by paper ballots to Barry Wong, who chairs the Resolution Committees for both the Jan 13 MCR mandatory meeting and the Jan 27 AZGOP mandatory meeting. I was not informed of the date, time and location of the Resolutions Committee meetings which unilaterally rejected this resolution. According to Wong, the resolution exceeded the 250 word limitation. It was clear that Wong included the Title Sentence as part of the resolution. Yet, Wong’s own format he specifically stipulates that the Title is not included in the resolution word count. My request that the Resolution Committee reconsider was rejected. This causes us to question Wong’s decisions/responsibility as they undermine trust in the process. Like the proposed Proxy Resolutions, the paper Ballots Resolutions were denied at both the State and County Resolution Committee levels.

My email Notice of Action to MCR Resolution Committee: I received your email regarding the rejection of the proposed resolution on paper ballots sent on Nov 28, 2017.I find that the decision in error. I want the Resolution Committee to review once again the resolution prior to the Maricopa County meeting in January. Committee reply: “Your proposed resolution was determined to be in non-compliance with MCR Bylaws on the word count maximum limitation for proposed resolutions; the maximum allowed is 250 words (excluding the title), your actual word count (excluding the title) exceeded this limit. Because your proposed resolution did not meet all the MCR Bylaw requirements for proposed resolutions it was not eligible for further consideration by the Resolutions Committee. Therefore, the Committee took no further action on it and it was not forwarded to the MCR chairman and executive director."

Prior to our submission we reviewed the protocols for submitting paper ballot resolutions. According to the protocol, resolutions were not to exceed 250 words (excluding the title). Our Nov 27, 2017 Proposed Resolution for paper ballots consists of 250 words, from the first Whereas sentence to the end. We added the brief one sentence title heading, which is not to be counted for word maximum of resolution. The Resolution Committee’s rejection is in error as it incorrectly counted the words of the Title and brief one sentence. Therefore, I ask that the Resolution Committee review the proposed resolution once again as its past determination was in non-compliance with the rules and bylaws of the Resolution Committee of Maricopa County Republican Party. Wong responded by simply restating his first email and stating the Resolution Committee would not reconsider the resolution. Contact: ramseyren@hotmail.com

Activist Stephen Sivigliano:Car design. What the h--l! What's with this absolutely UGLY new car design these days? Copy cats all. Why would anyone want to buy a new car with the front end looking like the distorted face of a monster? They were perfectly nice looking until Toyota/Lexus (I think), decided to put all that black nonsense on the noses of all their models, followed eagerly by the other companies. What happened to the bumper? Only pickups and vans still have any bumpers. This design is only surpassed in ugliness by all the '58 models with all that garish chrome and ridiculous doodads. When one of these new models approaches me from the rear, it looks like a giant shark distorted at birth, getting ready to swallow me up. Yuk!

AFA Team Responds To LD11 PC Jill Henderson regarding spoilers, 1-12-18-briefs let's be sure of the facts. According to dictionary.com, a spoiler is "any competitor, entrant, or candidate who has no chance of ultimate victory but does well enough to spoil the chances of another." In 2010 there were two candidates running against John McCain. However, McCain won 54% of the votes in that election. J.D. Hayworth got 34% and "Other" candidates got a total of 11%. If J.D. Hayworth had been the only challenger to McCain, he would have still lost because the combined votes of Hayworth and Other added up to only 45%. See how this works?

The same happened in 2016. McCain got 51.7% of the vote in the Primary, Ward got 39.2% Other got 8.9%. Using my handy calculator for accuracy, that comes up to McCain 51.7% and Others 48.1%, spoiled .2%. No one was a spoiler in either race because McCain attained more than 50% + 1 votes both times. No candidate could be a spoiler unless McCain won with less than 50%. It is clear from the outcomes that no one candidate had a chance to defeat McCain either time since all other votes together still didn't meet the 50%+1 vote. Sadly. Now, what we see in the current Senate race where there is no incumbent but a couple of more likely winners, the rest of the field might be considered spoilers.

Activist Karen Thomas: In answer to Randy Miller’s post about Richard Mack. I have the greatest respect for Sheriff Mack and although he is by law qualified to run for CD8 Representative, he is from CD5 (Gilbert) and Brenden Dilley is from CD9 (Queen Creek) and Kevin Cavanaugh is from CD1 Florence (Pinal County). How can we expect these candidates to do what is best for CD8? From CD8, we have Phil Lovas,Debbie Lesko and Claire Van Steenwyk who have been Precinct Committeemen for years. And, Phil,Debbie, Steve Montenegro and Bob Stump have served in the AZ House and/or Senate for years. These are tried and true candidates who have worked tirelessly for the Republican Party giving much of their time, money and efforts for us. We have the best people for CD8 right here in CD8. We need to keep that in mind.

Arizona’s National Republican Woman Lori Klein Corbin has announced her candidacy for Secretary of State. The former LD6 Arizona State Senator, who served as Arizona Chairman for “Women for Trump” in 2016, will continue in her role with the NRC. She is currently the coordinator for the Western Conservative Conference scheduled March 23-24 in Phoenix. She is married to former Arizona Attorney General Bob Corbin, who is a past President of the National Rifle Association. The Secretary is in charge of four divisions:

• Arizona Advance Directive Registry - the official state repository of advance directives such as living wills, Medical Powers of Attorney, and Mental Health Powers of Attorney.

• The Business Services Division - responsible for registering trademarks,trade names, and liens under the Uniform Commercial Code. It also issues apostilles, files intergovernmental agreements, notices of public meetings, regulates notaries public, employment agencies, sports agents, out-of-state landlords, telemarketers, and charitable organizations.The Division is responsible for chartering partnerships; corporations, on the other hand, are the responsibility of the Arizona Corporation Commission.

• The Elections Division - responsible for administering all elections in the state, and certifying their results. It also regulates lobbying and campaign finance.

• The Public Services Division - responsible for filing bills from the Arizona Legislature, registering and publishing administrative regulations, and publishes the Arizona Blue Book, which is an informational guide to the government of Arizona.
