The Arizona Game And Fish Department Needs Volunteers to assist with spotlighting efforts to help document the population of endangered black-footed ferrets in Aubrey Valley and on the Double O Ranch near Seligman on March 29-31 and April 26-29. The spotlighting method involves using high-powered lights to locate and identify black-footed ferrets. Their eyeshine is reflected by the spotlight and helps surveyors with identifying and locating these elusive, nocturnal carnivores. Volunteers must have the ability to stay attentive from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while spotlighting for black-footed ferrets and use, or learn how to use, a Global Positioning System (GPS). Volunteers can sign up by e-mailing azferret@azgfd.gov -- with “spring spotlighting” in the subject line – by March 23 for this month’s project and by April 20 for the later opportunity. Volunteers are reminded to include their full name, a contact phone number, month(s) and night(s) available to spotlight, and full names of others who also will be attending (a parent or guardian must accompany any youth under 18). Volunteers also should note any equipment they can bring, such as GPS, clipboard, headlamp, pen, binoculars, walkie-talkies, compass, cordless rechargeable spotlight, back-pack or 4X4 vehicle. A total of 19 individual black-footed ferrets were captured in 2017, slightly up from 16 in 2016. Of those 19, nine were captured in Aubrey Valley and 10 on the Double O Ranch. Almost 200 volunteers totaled 2,086 spotlighting hours over the course of the spring and fall projects. Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes released the official canvass and results of the Congressional District 8 Special Primary Election this week. The report identified the winning candidates and showed that overall turnout was 25.6 percent, with the vast majority of people voting early. There were just more than 108,000 early ballots, compared to nearly 8,500 ballots cast on Election Day. "Thanks to the collaboration with the Maricopa Board of Supervisors and the Arizona Secretary of State, we were able to ensure the voters of Congressional District 8 had an accurate, accessible, efficient election,” Fontes said. “There were challenges that we are learning from but overall this was a successful undertaking, especially considering the shortened timeline that a special election presents." Maricopa County Elections Director Rey Valenzuela added that most voters experienced negligible wait times at voting locations and the county’s new check-in system contributed to a decrease in the number of provisional ballots cast. There were only 531 provisional ballots, 447 of which were verified and counted. Provisional ballots, which require additional, labor-intensive steps to validate and process, have bogged down the county’s elections, creating longer lines at the polls and delaying results. "That was not the case in this election," Valenzuela said. "Wait times were reduced dramatically and we got great feedback from the public on the new Site Book check-in system." I was not raised on a farm, but I still remember my relatives doing the shocking, followed by the threshing. Maybe we need to go back to this type of activity if we are ever to be one nation. Franks could have prevented the headaches and the hassle Sheriff Joe Arpaio had to deal with from Obama. Sheriff Arpaio was doing what we the people asked of him. Franks was not!

Anyone who believes this is the end of it, take note:

2) This Issue Has The Potential To Unite All Voters--Conservatives, Democrats, And Independents--Against The Re-Election Of Every Member Of The Legislature Who Slights This Bill.
3) If We Can Expose It Broadly Enough, Between Now And November, It Is Even Possible That Successful Write-In Candidates Can Be Elected In Their Places.
HAVE they really stopped that bill dead in its tracks? HAVE they really beaten us again? Is there NOTHING we can do, now that they have signaled they will not bring the bill for a vote? I learned something last year, while challenging the AZGOP via organizing a special meeting to remove the chairman. There is only one thing wrongdoers fear, and that is EXPOSURE, the single most powerful antidote to lawlessness. I learned something else about this that I feel is even more important: It doesn't matter if you win or lose the actual battle for the issue that exposes them. It ONLY matters that they be exposed. To get our heads on straight to accomplish this, we need to: Turn our backs on any concern over losing the proxy bill. Turn our backs on our anxiety about losing yet another battle. Define winning as exposing. Period! Anything else we win is just extra. The more exposure, the more winning. The byproduct of exposing will be the same one that I--and those who helped publicize the removal--experienced last summer: We were happy warriors. We won by exposing.
