Flag Day

Happy Birthday Mr President

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is asking that Trump supporters sign a card for President Donald Trump’s 71st Birthday at Happy-Birthday-President Donald-Trump

Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s 85th Birthday“Gathering Of Friends” is tonight between 5-8 p.m., at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas, 6333 N Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85259, hosted by Dave & Liz Alcorn, Cyndi Love, Alex & Roberta Meluskey, And Tom & Kris Morrissey. A Wishing Well will be available to drop a card or gift into- if you choose.

AFA Team to Graham County Republican Chairman John Rhodes: Allow us to make a stab at answering your question: 6-13-17-briefsChairman Slaton appears to simply want the Arizona Statutes and the Bylaws of the AZGOP followed. That is the point of Statutes and Bylaws and is not too much to expect. It's what attempts to keep everyone honest and also to control chaos that occurs when everyone wants to set and adhere to their own rules in an organization.  Chairman Lines knows full well what the requirements are regarding doing an audit.  His refusal to turn over the books immediately to the new treasurer is willful and smacks of a hidden agenda, certainly non-compliance and suspicion from PCs across the Republican Party as to just what his agenda is.  Why would he want to foster mistrust among party PCs in Arizona?  Every district Chairman should be doing the job they were elected to do and demand compliance from ALL of our elected officials. Failure to do so is a personal failure on the part of district chairmen. Therefore, the questions you pose are the wrong ones.  The real question is:  Why would you have any question or reluctance about holding Chairman Lines accountable to state law and his own Bylaws?  We would be very pleased to see an honest answer.  Maybe we would learn something new that we don't currently know. As to the RNC, you know as well as we do that it is very rare for the RNC to get involved with state party issues.  Now, if it turns out that Chairman Lines did something illegal that reflects negatively on the RNC, that could be another matter.  But we have seen no evidence that the RNC has expressed any interest in this issue nor any preference or sense of satisfaction about what is going on in the AZGOP.  If you have that evidence, please send it to us and we will be happy to post it when we can verify its veracity.

American Freedom by Barbara exposed one of the best kept AZGOP secrets in town  with yesterday’s AZGOP-Accounting Heads In New Direction. Folks are now wondering what elected AZGOP State Treasurer Bob Lettieri is supposed to do since AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines has farmed out the bookkeeping to Red Curve Solutions - a Massachusetts firm? Lines was set to make the announcement during the Saturday Executive Committee meeting in Flagstaff. Now ExComm members will have time to think about it and ask questions when they gather this weekend. - ft

A Few Days Ago AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines tried to chastise those who challenge/question the Arizona GOP Establishment about a variety of things. Some folks are wondering if he sent his message to Sen John McCain, who constantly criticizes GOP President Donald Trump? Think about it folks. What kind of example is our senior senator setting? More and more Republicans are saying it’s long past time for McCain, the carpet beggar Dem turned RINO, to go sit in his rocking chair! Take a look at SEEING RED AZ archives for the past few weeks.- ft

McCain Strikes Back As Trump’s Chief CriticSen. John McCain is President Trump’s fiercest critic in the GOP and is giving voice to misgivings held by other Republicans more reticent about airing criticism in public. McCain’s latest stunning public shot was to reportedly tell The Guardian that America’s standing in the world was stronger under former President Barack Obama, a man the Arizona senator has torched for a “feckless” foreign policy. The statement came a month after McCain, his party’s 2008 presidential nominee, strongly criticized Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for downplaying the importance of basing foreign policy decisions on American values. Darcy Olsen, CEO - Goldwater Institute: The Arizona Supreme Court has issued a key victory for our Equal Protection for Indian Children project that will keep a young girl with the only family she has ever known. In our case before the state Supreme Court, an Arizona Indian tribe had sought to stop a foster family from adopting a girl they have cared for since she was five days old. An Arizona state judge already had approved the family’s request to give the girl a permanent home more than two years ago. But as the girl has Indian ancestry, the tribe attempted to invoke a federal law called the Indian Child Welfare Act and take control of the adoption proceedings. If the tribe had been successful, the tribe might have canceled the adoption entirely and sought to place the girl with a different family. But the Arizona Supreme Court agreed with our argument that the Indian Child Welfare Act simply doesn’t apply to this situation, and it’s time for the girl and her parents to become a permanent family. Today’s decision puts Indian tribes on notice that they must play by the same rules that apply to everyone else in state court when they seek to transfer a state court case to tribal court. And this case is a huge relief for Sarah, Jeremy, and baby girl A.D., who will now be able to renew their adoption plans. To read more about this case and our project to restore equal protection in child welfare for Indian children, please visit here.

Despite A Seemingly Wet Winter In Arizona’s High Country, several wildfires have broken out during the recent dry conditions, prompting land managers to issue Stage 1 fire restrictions on multiple public lands statewide. At 8 a.m. Thurs, June 15, the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests will enter into Stage 1 restrictions, which place prohibitions on campfires and smoking outside of designated areas. The Coconino and Kaibab National Forests join similar restrictions on the Prescott, Tonto and Coronado National Forests, specific lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management, Tonto National Monument, Saguaro National Park and state lands within Maricopa, Gila, Yavapai, Graham, Greenlee, Santa Cruz, Pima, Cochise, Pinal and La Paz counties. Because specific restrictions may vary by land manager and entity, visit https://firerestrictions.us/az/ for more information about specific locations.

Generally, Stage 1 restrictions include:

  • Fires, campfires, charcoal, coal and wood stoves are prohibited, except within a developed recreation site.
  • Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle, building or a developed recreation site.
  • Using a device that is solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed in areas that are barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three feet of the device.
  • Fireworks are always prohibited on all national forest lands.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

(300 word limit. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited)

Congressman Andy Biggs: The U.S. House of Representatives has passed landmark legislation to hold Veterans Administration employees accountable for performance or misconduct and to enhance protections for whistleblowers. S. 1094 was passed by the U.S. Senate last week, and approved by the House yesterday. Biggs said, “I was pleased to vote in favor of this historic bill, which sends a strong message to our honored veterans that Congress is looking after their interests. Passage of this law will help ensure that employees at all levels of the Department of Veterans Administration will not be allowed to provide below-average care to American veterans. Our veterans have long paid the price of this severe incompetence. Congress’ action provides a clear indication that we will not continue to look the other way, and President Trump and his administration have followed suit. In a few short months, the culture of the Veterans Administration has drastically improved. There is still much work to be done, and I am committed to leading more than just legislative efforts to assist our veterans. In January, I led a letter with Congresswoman Sinema and the rest of the Arizona Congressional delegation to urge VA Secretary Shulkin to grant exemptions under the federal hiring freeze to ensure necessary medical staff and other key positions at the Phoenix VA were not left vacant. In response to the letter, the VA said that the hiring freeze was not to affect the Phoenix VA from hiring medical staff. My office has also hosted a veterans fair, and has recently opened up a satellite office at the Southeast Veterans Affairs Health Care Clinic. My staff and I are resolved to stand with every veteran in our district and provide exceptional service for their needs. These veterans kept their promises to their nation, and they deserve a nation that keeps its promises to them. I am proud to stand with a Congress that takes this duty very seriously.”
