State-Forester-Concerned-About-Wildfire-Activity-In-Arizona Arizona is mid-way through wildfire season and the head of the Department of Forestry and Fire Management is concerned about how the rest of wildfire season will go when temperatures heat up for good. The agency said on Sunday crews are working to put out nearly 30 wildfires in Arizona. The Tee Fire at 1,200 acres and the Lizard Fire are burning in the southern part of the state while the Highline Fire is along the Mogollon Rim. Those three are "creating concern" for state forester Jeff Whitney.

Graham County Republican Chairman John Rhodesto Navajo County Republican Chairman Steven Slaton: Mr. Slaton, just wondering what your endgame is on these emails 6-11-17 Briefs archives and what you were trying to accomplish by sending them to me. Also curious what you're trying to accomplish with the state chairman and what do you want us to do to accomplish your goals. The RNC seems to be more than happy with our state chairman and the fundraising that we're doing so please state your goals.
Ty Gray was appointed as director of the Arizona Game and Fish Department by a unanimous AzGFD Commission vote during the June 11 commission meeting. The 24 year Game and Fish employee is currently the agency’s deputy director. He replaces nine year Director Larry Voyles, who announced May 12 he would be retiring after a 43-year career with Game and Fish. Gray will assume the role following a transition period.
LD20 Activist Wes Harris: As a follow up to the items I sent you regarding the City of Phoenix going into debt to finance debt, 6-10-17 Briefs Archives the following is the explanation that everyone has been asking me for: A year ago the City of Phoenix actuarial audit of the Public Safety Pensions contributions resulted in an underfunded liability of $3.6 Billion. The City and the unions negotiated to make up the deficit by amortizing it over a period of 20 years, kind of like a mortgage or a car payment. Now the City and the Fireman's and Police Unions have gotten together to change that agreement and elongate the amortization over 30 years, not 20 years, which will give the city a bit of a windfall to invest in Police and firefighters today and each year for 30 years. This is a classic case of robbing Peter (in this case the tax payer) to pay Paul (the police and Fire). Now all of us have had both mortgages and car payments and we all know that the shorter the period the less the cost. In this case the cost to extend the payment period 50% (or 10 years) the debt service costs go up by $2.6 Billion or 72% of the original debt. This is not sound financial management and those that make this decision will be reaping the rewards from those very pensions when "The Bell Tolls" for those left holding the bag, so to speak. Pretty simple...right? And 'simply' wrong. Editor’s Note: Harris is a PC, State Committeeman, Precinct Capt and MCRC Member-at-Large.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION
(300 word limit. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited)
Congresswoman Martha McSally: CBP is critically understaffed and well below its congressionally mandated staffing levels by more than 1,000 Officers and 1,800 Border Patrol Agents. Technology and infrastructure are useless if we don’t have a well-trained agent or officer present to intercept a drug load, screen cargo, or speed legitimate transit through a port of entry. Last week the House passed my bipartisan bill to give CBP discretionary ability to expedite hiring qualified, vetted vets and law enforcement officers who already have earned public trust. This bill will increase the security of our nation and facilitate cross-border commerce and tourism –so vital to the Arizona and national economy. Click HERE to learn more.
Congresswoman Martha McSally: The cruelty animals are subjected to during cosmetics testing is unacceptable—from lethal dose tests to irritation and force-feeding tests. Not only are these tests inhumane, but modern technology makes them unnecessary and overly expensive. Last week I introduced the Humane Cosmetics Act to end this inhumane cosmetic animal testing. No animal should suffer for a new tube of lipstick or bottle of shampoo.
Congresswoman Martha McSally: Last week Emmy-nominated actress Kate Mara of House of Cards joined me to call on the USDA to restore online access to Animal Welfare records. The USDA removed these records in February. I sent a bipartisan letter signed by 101 House members to the Administration asking the USDA to release these documents. We need transparency and accountability for the humane treatment of our animals. The American people deserve access to these compliance reports. Click HERE to learn more.
Congresswoman Martha McSally: I was honored to represent our district and our nation in Mexico City as one of 11 members of Congress (and the only member of the Arizona Delegation) attending the 53rd United States-Mexico Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG), which is charged with fostering dialogue between our two countries. We discussed migration, U.S/Mexico economic and trade relationships, security cooperation, and a 21st century southwest border. I will continue to work to increase economic opportunity and security for our district and our country.
Congresswoman Martha McSally: I’m committed to creating an environment that creates more jobs and opportunity for Southern Arizonans. That's why I hosted a Jobs Fair this Saturday at Sahuaro High School. We had a great turnout--over 500 people looking for a job or new career came out to connect with 50 local employers. I’ve fought in Congress for initiatives that will foster more job growth in our community, and I'll continue to work to expand opportunity for all Southern Arizonans.
Congresswoman Martha McSally: On the ninth anniversary of his passing, we raised the American flag in honor of fallen Officer Erik Hite who was killed in the line of duty. Officer Hite was a 21 year veteran of the United States Air Force and served with the Tucson Police Department for 4 years. This flag pole is the Eagle Scout project of Jack St. Louis with Boy Scout Troop 209 who teamed up with Flags for the Flagless and Concerns of Police Survivors to make this happen. Well done, Jack!
Sen John McCain on the arrest of more than a thousand peaceful protesters in Russia, including Russian opposition leader Aleksei Navalny: “I was disturbed, yet sadly not surprised, to learn of the arrest of Aleksei Navalny, who has been a fearless leader in the fight for democracy and rule of law in Russia. Mr. Navalny’s efforts to organize nonviolent demonstrations against the Kremlin’s corruption in the face of growing poverty across Russia are a testament to his patriotism, and I join the international community in demanding his immediate and unconditional release, as well as the release of all protesters unjustly detained. Tens of thousands of citizens across Russia have taken to the streets in protest despite the Russian government’s attempts to ban demonstrations and harass protestors. Amidst these growing calls for accountability and an end to corruption, Vladimir Putin has shown his true colors by cracking down on peaceful protests and reportedly detaining more than a thousand activists for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights. If we’ve learned anything from these demonstrations, it’s that the Russian people will not be intimidated or silenced by the Putin regime. They will continue to speak out against corruption and injustice and fight for truth and liberty for the Russian people. The timing of Mr. Navalny’s arrest is itself a cruel irony, as today is Russia Day, a national holiday commemorating the beginning of Russia’s democratic reforms in 1990. Putin’s reign of coercion and terror is an affront to those who fought so hard for that progress. The United States should make clear which side we are on: we stand with Aleksei Navalny and all Russians who want to live in freedom.”
