NOTES FROM READERS
Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing
Activist Jill Skaufel: This article was published in the White Mountain Independent yestrday by the Editor Michael Johnson. This has been a long time coming. judge-Dismisses-Slaton’s-Lawsuit-Against-NCRC/ My favorite part of the article is where the attorney says: “I think the court got it right,” said Hunter Lewis, of Holland Law Office in Snowflake, the attorney representing Vance and the GOP committee. “Mr. Slaton… just didn’t read the bylaws. The bylaws are pretty straightforward for the (Navajo County) Republican Committee. (The current leadership) followed the bylaws, and the court agreed and dismissed the case, so I was pleased and very happy with the outcome.”
Brian Reilly, Former LD22 PC: Is Joe Arpaio covering up a crime? In March of 2012, Arpaio said that he had evidence that the Obama birth certificate was a forgery and that he had identified a person of interest associated with the crime. In July of 2012, Arpaio again said that the Obama birth
certificate was a forged government document. In December of 2016, Arpaio again announced that the Obama birth certificate was proven to be a forgery. And now in March of 2018, Arpaio tells us, “I’m kind of dropping that [birth certificate] right now, but I’m going to tell you something: 100 percent we proved that’s a fake document,” For 6 years, Arpaio has been talking about the knowledge that he has regarding the evidence of a crime that allegedly has been committed. And now, Arpaio says, “I don’t talk about it anymore until I become a U.S. Senator..." In other words, If you elect me to the U.S. Senate, I'll reveal all my birth certificate information. The fact that Arpaio has apparently never sought prosecution for the alleged crime of forgery on either a state or federal level and now with Arpaio announcing that he'll not say anything more until after he's elected to the U.S. Senate, one could legitimately ask, is Joe Arpaio covering up a crime? The answer is no! That’s because no crime of forgery was ever committed. The Obama birth certificate was authenticated and verified by the state of Hawaii back in 2012. Arpaio certainly knows how to manipulate his gullible supporters with theatrics. His so called birth certificate investigation was nothing more than political theater to maintain his political office as sheriff, and now it’s the spin to help him become a member of the U.S. Senate. Let’s not make the same mistake and make “America’s Most Expensive Former Sheriff” a U.S. Senator. The honorable action for Arpaio would be to withdraw from the U.S. Senate race, and endorse conservative, Dr. Kelli Ward. His withdrawal from the race would benefit the Republican Party, the state of Arizona and it would show that Arpaio is not a spoiler. It's time to end the birth certificate charade. Townhall Contributor and IC Arizona Editor Rachel Alexander– Maricopa County taxpayers deserve to know how the Maricopa County Supervisors and Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery are abusing their tax dollars. For eight and a half years, the supervisors have spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars in pursuit of a vendetta against myself and another former government attorney, Lisa Aubuchon, merely because we followed orders from our former boss County Attorney Andrew Thomas as he worked with former Sheriff Joe Arpaio to root out corruption in the supervisors’ office and combated illegal immigration.
The supervisors and Montgomery refuse to pay $101,292.75 in costs associated with the disciplinary show trial against us – a trial they instigated with bar complaints against us. Unbelievably and fiscally irresponsible, Montgomery said publicly that the supervisors are in the right to refuse to pay it. They have now fought for years in court to resist paying it, even though they paid the costs for my immediate supervisor, Pete Spaw, because he caved to save his own hide. They have now spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on this vendetta in order to have to avoid paying the $101,292.75 – a gross abuse of tax dollars. Since Lisa and I cannot afford to pay it, we are prohibited from practicing law. We both have lost all of our savings, racked up immense debt, and I lost my health over the never-ending stress.
This past month, the supervisors and Montgomery asked the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to award them $67,347.50 in attorneys’ fees for the latest round of legal proceedings. The county has relied on law firm Sacks Tierney. The court denied their motion but that puts the taxpayers on the hook. Although the current county supervisors were not in office when the vendetta started, they are continuing the vendetta.
It is misfeasance for public officials to use taxpayer dollars in pursuit of a vendetta. As one former official familiar with the long witch hunt described it, “Rachel and Lisa are being sacrificed at the altar of official Maricopa County corruption. The County’s actions are reprehensible.” Isn’t eight and a half years of a government vendetta against two former subordinates enough? Any attorney thinking about working for the County should be warned. If you get in trouble for doing your job, you WILL be thrown under the bus if it is politically expedient. Please consider contacting the five supervisors and the county attorney and demand that they end the misfeasance of taxpayer dollars in this ongoing witch hunt. For more information, click here. Editor’s Note: Briefs offered Montgomery an opportunity to respond. Montgomery replied: “It is so full of misrepresentations and faulty conclusions that I would have to write a response at least twice as long. But for the fact that Rachel and Lisa kept appealing the case, there wouldn’t have been a need to continue litigating it. Additionally, my Office could not handle the case because of conflicts so an outside firm had to handle it.”

CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: The Congress did it again. Tom O'Halleran did it again. They sold us out. The $1.3 trillion Omnibus bill just passed the house after 2 days of cramming it through. Thousands of pages. No time to read it. Tom O'Halleran and a bunch of Establishment Republicans voted with him.
What was in it? Nothing good.
· Sanctuary cities? Funded.
· Planned Parenthood? Funded.
· Gun control (Fix NICS)? Passed.
· A massive increase in our national debt. Funded.
What wasn't in it? None of the things the people voted for.
· The Obamacare repeal. Missing.
· Funding for the border wall. Missing.
· Spending cuts. Missing.
I am tired of it, Friend. I really am. That is why I am running for Congressin Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. We need to Drain the Swamp of these people who are undermining our fiscal security and national security at the same time. Do you know why I think the Democrats and Establishment Republicans have teamed up to pass this bill? Because they want to hand the Congress over to the Democrats in 2018 so they can impeach and challenge the President without having to take ownership. Republican squishes would rather Nancy Pelosi lead the charge against President Trump. That is what is going on. That way the weak-kneed Republican establishment can stay in office while blaming Nancy Pelosi for all of the problems. Nobody wants to stop this but a few brave souls like me and conservatives in the House. When elected, I will stop it. I don't care. I have been up against the grain my whole life.
One of the first female pilots in the United States Air Force? Check.
· Entrepreneur running my own business? Check.
· Homeschool mom who took the education of her kids into her own hands? Check.
· One of the first people to endorse President Trump in Arizona during the primary? Check
I care about you and our nation. But I need your help. The Swamp will be coming through my reports. Our campaign needs to show strength. You have stood with me or the president in times past. Stand with me today. Let's drain the Swamp America First. Arizona First. Editor’s Note: Rogers is a retired Lt Col USAF.
Supt Of Public Instruction Candidate Frank Riggs: This is going to be a huge year for education in Arizona. Voters are going to use their ballots to shape our state’s education system for 2019 and beyond. With Democrats expected to turn out in opposition to President Trump, our conservative values of parental school choice and local control of education are at risk. I cannot allow the educational opportunities we’ve fought for all these years to be undone in a single election. That is why I’m running for Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction. The Arizona Department of Education needs a leader focused on getting more dollars to the classroom, recruiting and retaining the best teachers, and being fully accountable to parents, educators, and taxpayers. We also need an education leader firmly committed to our conservative ideals of school choice and local control – NOT someone who bends with the political winds at the first sign of pressure. I believe I’m the most qualified candidate for this office, with experience ranging from public school board president, to charter school president, to chairing the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education as a member of the United States Congress. This will be huge year for education in Arizona and I hope to have your support for Superintendent of Public Instruction so that we can keep up the fight for school choice and local control...and a quality education for every Arizona student! · Maintain Chandler's history of being a well-run city
· Continue Chandler’s relationship with its citizens
· Build upon Chandler’s bright vision for the future
By adopting this vision for Chandler, we can continue the City’s trend of low taxes, partnering with education leaders to improve workforce readiness, and supporting our first responders to provide a safe environment for the community. These are the positions I will advocate for in my second term on the City Council. For more information about my candidacy, or to join the team and support my campaign for a stronger Chandler, please visit my website at www.ReneLopezForChandler.com.

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY
Congresswoman Martha McSally: Working with the President to Crack Down on Sanctuary Cities While Arizona is not a sanctuary state, we are flanked by states, like California, with reckless sanctuary policies that thumb their nose and federal law--and that endangers Arizonans. We frequently have MS-13 gang members arrested in Arizona that have come from California with previous criminal records. Mary Ann Mendoza knows the dangers first hand. She lost her son, Mesa Police Sgt. Officer Brandon Mendoza, to an illegal immigrant with a previous criminal record who had been let off the hook in Colorado. I participated in a roundtable with President Trump at the White House last week to discuss this grave public safety threat. I was honored to be one of only a handful of Members of Congress invited to attend, and the only representative from Arizona. Click HERE or below to watch ABC15 Arizona's coverage, and click HERE to watch McSally's full exchange with the President.
Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Chucri: I had the opportunity to present a grant from the Maricopa County Industrial Development Authority to President Crow at Arizona State University for a new workforce development project. This grant from the IDA is an example of a public-private partnership that can accelerate innovation and diversify our economy to bring jobs that improve the quality of life in Maricopa County. The medical technology industry is uniquely suited to grow here in Maricopa County, thanks to existing hospitals and industry pioneers such as MedTronic. Learn More about this Partnership.
