Things got a bit testy over the weekend asreports continue to circulate regarding who Gov Doug Ducey will appoint to replace Sen John McCain (who is suffering from brain cancer). After
Ducey’s gubernatorial opponent, former Secretary of State, Ken Bennett, stated he wouldn’t appoint McCain’s wife Cindy to fill his McCain’s seat, AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines fired off, “I am disappointed in you (Bennett). Regardless of your personal feelings towards the McCain’s this type of attack has zero place in our Party or our State, you’ve disqualified yourself from leading our state.” (Hmmm…Lines has the audacity to tell one of Arizona’s hardest working congressional delegates that
he’s “disqualified” from leading our state?? Perhaps Lines forgets state committeemen
had enough signatures to vote on removing him as the state chair last January, but shenanigans saved him.) Congressman Paul Gosar sided with Bennett, saying,“It is a matter of public policy. Gov. Ducey or his team floated the name. We want the most qualified for Senate. Cindy McCain is not. I reject leftist tactics of attacking the person and urge Ducey to stand down.” More details: Gosar Joins Bennett In Rejecting Cindy McCain, Salter Gets “Infantile” - ft
Briefs Was Assured by AZGOP Communications Director Ayshia Connors that “…The RNC and the AZ GOP have partnered to create the largest, most robust and well organized field program in Arizona history” when Briefs inquired about reports that CD1, CD4, CD5 and CD6 field directors had walked out due to little training and being “worked like slaves and micromanaged by the RNC”. 5-24-18 Briefs. Late yesterday aft
ernoon, Maricopa County Republican Executive Guidance Committee (MCR EGC) members received this message from MCR Chairman Chris Herring: “We’ve been informed that there are a number of opportunities for full time paid positions as field organizers with the AZGOP. These positions are responsible for grassroots organizing within a single legislative district and are full time through the general election. We are asking that each LD advertise these positions to their members as PCs are encouraged to apply. It may be possible for those who are hired to be assigned to their own LD. Political Activist Lolly Hathhorn: It seems that lots of people are commenting on the blog by Roseanne. Too bad that those same people don’t condemn Maxine Waters, Cathy Griffin, the BEE person, Joy Bahar, etc. It seems that only conservatives get called out on the so-called ‘bad’ things they say. Nobody seems to condemn when the ‘C’ word is used against Ivanka or that incest was suggested by that BEE person! How sad that we have come to this trend in our society. I find it disgusting and am going all out to make sure that people know ‘Trump Won – Get a Grip’ message gets out there again. I am proud to say that I supported Donald J. Trump from day one and continue to do so. The jealousy of Flake, McNasty and others here in AZ is too sad for words. I am glad that they are not doing anything for the people of AZ that would hurt us even more. You can consider me ‘Proud Deplorable Trump BUM’. God Bless America, my President Donald J. Trump and all of the people that support him. Pray for our troops!
Frosty, you make my day with your patriotism and Briefs! Thank You.
Tom Morrissey Past Chairman AZ GOP: I found Chairman Jonathan Lines quite laughable when considering his comment "…you've disqualified yourself from leading our state" to Ken Bennett. In my
opinion that is what could easily be said about him (Chairman Lines) and leading the state party. Editor’s Note Lines complete comment reads: “I am disappointed in you, regardless of your personal feelings towards the McCains - this type of attack has zero place in our Party or our State, you’ve disqualified yourself from leading our state.” See Gosar Joins Bennett In Rejecting Cindy McCain, Salter Gets “Infantile”
Former US Rep J D Hayworth (1995-2007: Frosty: You do a wonderful job informing us of what’s happening politically; thank you very much!
As the late, great Peter Falk used to say toward the end of each episode of “Columbo,” “There’s just one thing…” In this instance, I refer to the viral email you included in the 6-3-18-briefs entitled “Floating the Internet: Letter to the Boss.” It includes this passage: “…a pension plan that will pay my salary until the day I die.” That is one of the great myths on the internet.
Here’s the Reality: President Reagan and Speaker O’Neill, in their “Bipartisan Plan to Save Social Security” back in the ’80’s, determined that the separate (and lucrative)pension plan for Senators and Congressman would be abolished. From that time forward, constitutional officers in the Legislative Branch have been regarded as “federal employees,” paying into Social Security, and eligible for a modest pension if they serve in office a total of five years and six months.
If you’ve believed the fiction about Ex-Congressman being paid their full salaries for the rest of their lives, you’re not alone…in a recent conversation with the Programing Chief of a national radio network, that broadcast executive said to me, “It’s really admirable that you want to continue to work, given the fact you’re paid your salary for the rest of your life!”
So…I did for that broadcaster what I’m doing for your readership now: “gently correcting” the record. Thanks to you, Frosty…and to the Arizona Voters who accorded me the honor of serving in the U.S. House for 12 years.- Editor’s Note: Thank you JD, for pointing out that mistake. Indeed, I am aware that the current officials don’t get a life-time pension; while editing at 3 am, I read right over that errorant statement. - ft
Tea Party Patriots Citizens Chairman Jenny Beth Martin: We’ve seen a lot of liberals whining about President Trump using the term “animals” about the depraved killers in the MS-13 gang. Our pathetic “border” is letting violence, drugs and human trafficking flow into the USA from Mexico, and President Trump is doing everything in his power to crack down on it and protect the American people. But he is undermined at every turn by liberal “reporters,” Nancy Pelosi’s socialists, and establishment RINOs who never supported border security. Help take them all on and win by fueling our Tea Party fight at this critical moment. You can help defeat the last-gasp push for amnesty (orchestrated by Pelosi’s socialists working with a handful of weak-kneed RINO Republicans), support President Trump’s call for law and order, and elect more pro-Wall conservatives to Congress - Tea Party gift.www.teapartypatriots.org
“Keeping Mesa Great”Gene Dufoe’sLetter To Mesa Mayor & Councilmembers: I reviewed all council meetings and study sessions since the February 26 council meeting and have come to this conclusion on ASU. The voters turned down this project in November 2016. You said that you would NOT be in favor of the ASU project if it requires a tax increase or a rate increase in utility rates. It has become obvious that you are hiding behind the forecast rates that were projected in the previous year(s) and it took a careful examination of the May 10 budget session and a collection of yours, Mr. Brady’s and Candace’s statements to finally get the full picture.
You are all intelligent enough to know that a projection is binding when the council takes a vote; that vote was taken in the May 7, 2018 city council meeting, when a 2% rate increase to the utility rates of the citizens of Mesa was passed. That vote enacted a rate increase. Additionally, the rate of 2% is not for all water users and the rate increases per tier in the water schedule, most will pay a higher than 2% increase now with this new increase. More than deceptive to the utility users of Mesa.
Mr. Montague was summoned to the May 21 council meeting to present the report of a survey taken by some unknown company that reflects the wishes of yourself and the majority of council. Montague did not fill out a blue card and could have only come to the podium at your request.
The citizens of Mesa asked in 2016 that Public Safety and this ASU project be put before the voters as separate issues but you refused. You have been asked on numerous occasions to separate these two issues and you have refused; now you have voted to put the public safety tax increase on the ballot as a separate issue and are trying to manipulate the ASU project with your smoke and mirrors shell game. The remaining questions are: Does Council drop this ASU issue completely or come back at a later date with a proposal that the citizens of Mesa might be more in favor of. Or, does the Council put this project on the ballot as a separate issue and let the voters decide. Or do the citizens open up a full investigation, discovery, and testimony of all issues from beginning to end surrounding this ASU boondoggle? - Keeping Mesa Great, Gene Dufoe, Ellen Dufoe, Henry Haws, Edna Haws, Steve Hetsler, Danny Ray, Clifford Ray, James J. Beeler, Charlene Beeler, Wallace Haws, Bill Sandry, Itasca Small, Verl Farnsworth.Contact:city-hall/mayor-council Mesa City Council meetings city of mesa Editor’s Note: This is a condense version of Dufoe’s lettter. The original letter ran nearly twice the Brief’s word limit policy.
Brian Reilly, Former LD 22 PC: My response to Mr. Dennis Zinke’s 5-29-18 Briefs
article, in which he wrote: “…Sheriff Joe was investigating our former president, why is it being brought up again now![?]” When I originally petitioned Sheriff Arpaio to investigate President Obama’s PDF image of his birth certificate that was posted on the White House website on April 27, 2011, I requested that Arpaio and his department, with all of its resources, do the investigation. On August 22, 2011, I alone met a second time with Sheriff Arpaio at his 19th floor office in the Wells Fargo Building. Sheriff Arpaio informed me that the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office would not investigate the birth certificate and he would turn the project over to a
volunteer, non-profit corporation. Why is the “investigation” coming to the surface again? Our former sheriff is now running for the U.S. Senate and he apparently thinks this issue should be revived for his true believers. Mr. Zinke goes on to write that “[Arpaio’s] investigation is now vindicated and I applaud him for not backing down. He did what he was asked to do.” Once again, Sheriff Arpaio did not do the investigation and he did not do what I originally asked him to do at our first meeting, on August 18, 2011. However, an Arizona official, former Secretary of State Ken Bennett gave me his word that President Obama’s name would not be placed on the 2012, election ballot absent proof that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and is an American citizen. On May 22,
2012, Secretary Bennett received a certified Verification of Birth from the Hawaii Department of Health for Barack H. Obama, verifying that he is an American citizen and born in the United States. While many Tea Party people unfairly lambasted Bennett for following the rule of law, by putting Obama on the 2012, Arizona ballot, it should give one insight into not only the importance of the certified Verification of Birth for Obama but also what then Secretary of State Bennett did for the people of Arizona. Once he received proof of Obama’s birth credentials, Bennett complied with the law and performed his duty. Arizona was the first state in the Union to receive a certified Verification of Birth for Barack Obama because of Secretary of State Ken Bennett’s actions to protect the voters. Bennett kept his word and followed the rule of law! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
