AzFRW President Loraine Bennett Pellegrino: The Arizona chapter of Americans for Prosperity urges the citizens of Arizona to vote NO on the state’s income tax hike proposal, the so-called “Invest in Education” proposal. This proposition would turn Arizona into a high-tax state, hurt our state’s small business owners, and put teacher pay in jeopardy. It would be the largest permanent tax increase in Arizona history, making Arizona’s top income tax rate the fifth-highest in the country and the highest in the Southwest region. The Report For The Library Services Division of the Secretary of State’s office has been released. Every year Secretary of State Michele Reagan requires each of the divisions under her authority to provide a report outlining significant highlights from the previous fiscal year. The Library Services Division strives to provide Arizonans access to information about their government, their state, and their world by offering content in a variety of formats, preserving Arizona’s history for future generations, and empowering local institutions to engage their communities in learning. “Library Services does an incredible amount of work every year and the last year was one of the busiest,” said Reagan. “From helping disabled Arizonans at the Arizona Talking Book Library to the merging of DAZL and SLA and the moving of library materials to the Poly Rosenbaum Archives and History Building, the division has done an incredible amount of great work – all while making the services more efficient across the board. ” Some highlights for the Library Services Division over the course of the year include:
• The Digital Arizona Library (DAZL) and State Library of Arizona (SLA) branches merged to become the State of Arizona Research Library.
• The Reading Room at the Capitol was closed and the move of library materials and services to the Polly Rosenbaum Archives and History Building began. This consolidation allows customers to access both Research Library and Archives resources at one location, with assistance from knowledgeable subject specialists.
• Increased volunteers by 15% at the Arizona Talking Book Library for a total of 11,364 total volunteer hours

The National Association of Counties praised the Maricopa County Recorder's Office during the recent United States House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform for its commitment to conducting safe and efficient elections. The committee recognized the Recorder's Office for its implementation of the Community Relations Team in 2017. This team is responsible for engaging in proactive outreach activities, to empower communities and help organizations register and educate voters. "The CRT ensures that voters are informed and have access to the resources available from our office," Recorder Adrian Fontes said. "The original model has morphed a little in response to community and county needs, but the main motive, keeping our voters informed and engaged, has remained." NOTES FROM READERS
Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does NOT endorse pre-primary candidates. Comments running over 400 words are subject to editing. - ft.
Marianne Ferrari, LD20 PC and State Committeeman My God, but I've missed the Briefs! So glad you are back! Thank you for never giving up. You are such a trooper!!!
Activist Judy Lawrence: Thank you for the great work you do. Blessings,
Former Maricopa County Republican Chairman Lyle Tuttle: Is there a fee charged to them to cover our costs, or does Mexico pay us? Our people have to pay, or their companies do!! See ADOT's truck driver training in Mexico marks successful first year. Program prepares drivers, firms for safety inspection requirements
Activist Barbara Blewster: Arizona is a targeted by the left for going BLUE. Trevor Louden explains the California power house money helping to make that happen! Friends, make no mistake, Arizona will follow California as a socialistic-communistic state if the citizens do not realize that in order to protect our sovereignty we must stop illegal immigration. This is not a battle of color but a battle between Socialism-Communism and freedom under the Constitution. This Thursday night, 7 pm, 915 W, Fairway Drive, Lester Pearce will be discussing the Arizona Constitution. Come and bring a friends for liberty.
LD5 Margaret Benedict: In response to Tania Burgess’s outrageous Facebook Live video claiming Dr. Kelli Ward acted inappropriately at Saturday’s Republican picnic in Kingman: I was at the picnic yesterday in Kingman and I am one of the people alluded to in the video (i.e. web of lies). This really is fake news and people shouldn’t believe it. I don’t appreciate the lies because I was there and personally saw everything that happened. None of this is true! Please do not confuse RESPECT for Joe Arpaio as SUPPORT for him running for U.S. Senate. There is a very distinct difference. I have great respect for him as former Maricopa County Sheriff but I absolutely support Dr. Kelli Ward for US Senate. This is why I volunteered all day yesterday at her booth. She is absolutely the best candidate and I will continue to volunteer and work hard to do whatever it takes to get her into office. The attempt to demonize her will not work. Temper tantrum? It is sad that Joe is represented by people who are not looking out for his best interests. Truth still matters. Don’t resort to these underhanded tactics, Joe!
Activist Chris Brant: I need to address several points made by “new Republican” Teresa Mendoza. Shortly after receiving my citizenship in 1983 I registered as a Republican and became a PC. As many long-term Republicans, I am sick of the blanket statements of terming everyone you don’t agree with is as a RINO. I termed the phase HYPPOs a year ago because many of the “holy than thou’ name callers are hypocrites. I would humbling tweak Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment of “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican” to “A person to be called a RINO has to earn it.” The only similarity between Commander McCain and Colonel McSally is that they were both military pilots. McCain’s father and grandfather were Admirals so he had a prestegous upbringing. McSally and her 4 siblings were brought up by her single mother because of the death of her father when Martha was 12. We know McCain graduated 894th in a class of 899 at the Naval Academy at Annapolis. McSally was first in her class at the Air War College. A naval investigation blamed McCain for crashing an aircraft and being responsible for damaging another one because of “daredevil clowning”. He wasn’t responsible for the USS Forrestal tragedy but he lost two other aircraft. Did McCain get promotion through merit, I don’t know. I do know that McSally had an impeccable record earning her rank of Colonel after 26 years of service. Ms. Mendoza, have you heard of HR4760 -Securing America’s Future Act? Republicans in Rep Goodlatte district are not calling him Goodamnesty. McSally and Goodlatte were the chief sponsors of the bill which had no amnesty and was just short of passing in the US House. Let’s stop the name calling and certainly stop trying to compare McCain and McSally, it’s insulting.
Brian Reilly, Former LD22 PC: While reviewing candidate websites, I ran across the following on ClairVan Steenwyk’s campaign website for State Senator, District 22. It’s called America’s Creed: “I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people; whose powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in the republic, a sovereign Nation of many States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my Duty to My Country to Love it, to Support its Constitution, to Obey its Laws, to respect its Flag and to Defend it against all enemies.”–Written 1917. Accepted by the United States House of Representatives on April 3,1918.
Two political candidates from the past used “America’s Creed” in a handout that I distributed with my father back in 1964. The candidates were Barry M. Goldwater and William E. Miller. They were running for President and Vice President on the Conservative ticket for the Republican Party against the Liberal, Republican Establishment Elites. I was 14 years old when I campaigned with my father for Goldwater. Not surprisingly, Van’s first campaign was the Re-Election Campaign of President Eisenhower in 1956, at age 9. It turns out that we both have a solid foundation in conservative Republican politics. We’re both very familiar with “America’s Creed.” While many local Republicans have been critical of Van’s continual run for political office, I see his campaign efforts exhibit determination, perseverance and a love of country and public service unmatched by many of his fellow candidates. With his understanding of our Constitution, he would be unmatched in his ability to represent the electorate. For example, Van has a clear understanding that the “Popular Vote,” supported by his opponent, undermines Article II of the U.S. Constitution. Hillary Clinton would now be president if the “Popular Vote” were the determining factor. While Van Steenwyck may seem rough around the edges, I would rather see someone in office who loves and understands our Constitution, and will defend it against all enemies. President Trump, at times, speaks before he thinks and comes across abrasive. But, we all give him a pass, because we know he wants America to succeed. I believe Van Steenwyck and Donald Trump are on the same page to “Make America Great Again".
Activist Bruce M Piepho: The socialist movement is gaining ground in the Democrat party. Have you heard about the under 30 woman victorious in NY. She is without any doubt a progressive socialist as she proclaims proudly to be a socialist.
Arizona early ballots start arriving in voters mail boxes in a little a few days. Voters should be researching incumbents and candidates to make sure they are consistent in what they are singing as they travel from one meeting to the next. Ask them or ascertain their positions. Not satisfied with a primary candidate positions - do not vote for them.
Definition of socialism
1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods,
2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done.
What is the difference between socialism on the left and communism on the right? One is a step to the next level of tyranny.
Definition of communism
1 system
a : system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed
b : a theory advocating elimination of private property
2 capitalized
a : a doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the U.S.S.R.
b : a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production,
c : a final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state has withered away and economic goods are distributed equitably,
d : communist systems collectively.
Did you catch the progress through stages? How about the socialism as a transition to communism? You may think I am crazy, but the progressives then called liberals started a civil was in 1913, 105 years ago.
Look up the fifth plank of the Marxist manifesto. It calls for Central Bank to control the economy and money. That is what a group of wealthy men did in a New York resort at a secret in the deep woods. It is called the Federal Reserve System. Then around 1920 the orientation of college students began to transformation to the leftist professors of today.

CANDIDATE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Write-In LD25 State Senate Candidate Itasca Small: I am running as an Official Write-In Candidate, seeking the honor and privilege of representing LD25 in our State Senate, to restore Our Liberty under God in our own backyard! President Trump is drainingthe Swamp; Are we ready to DREDGE that Swamp? Voters across Arizona must elect candidates who understand and Stand for Freedom and our Founding Principles, to field a legislature ready and able to dredge the Swamp, preparing Smaller Government for the fresh, clean waters of Liberty and Truth. Providential circumstances precluded my running to qualify for the ballot. Then, LD25's notorious RINO, Bob Worsley, dropped out of the Senate Race; by his own admission, after choosing his presumed successor, a newcomer described as "moldable” by a conservative activist who participated in unsuccessful searches for a “supername” to run. They twice-rejected out-of-hand one candidate for lack of supername recognition; the one candidate willing to run, first against Worsley, then, against his heir-apparent–ME, Itasca Small! This Constitutionalist Write-In Candidate is crying in the wilderness: “Here am I; send me!”
By his own hand, Bob Worsley declared his deceitful duplicitous act, pretending for a year to run for reelection while plotting to drop-out when satisfied that he had found his heir-apparent. Now, it appears that two district factions hope to mold the ballot candidate to their image of the ideal senator. Any elected official who can be molded by the prevailing swamp tides is no Constitutionalist, and only wants to Conserve his own status quo. I don’t want a senator who can be “chosen” and shaped by factions because he does not understand founding principles to sustain and guide him! DO YOU?? I want a senator who knows what this Nation stands for: The American Republic . . . One Nation under God! We, The People, call for a senator to hit-the-ground-running, with firm knowledge of what to do to restore small government and unshackle Our Liberty under God! I am that candidate for the AZ Senate in LD25.

Phx City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: The Phoenix Police Department just launched a new campaign called the “Find the Blue in You” which includes a video that shows 85 specialty units within the department such as Air Support. The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association believes the Department should hire an additional 1,000 more officers. You can watch the first video HERE. Congressman Paul Gosar This week, I joined my colleagues from the Western Caucus and dozens of stakeholders and advocacy groups to announce a bipartisan package of Endangered Species Act modernization bills. We've got 9 bills, 115 endorsements and support from all across the aisle! https://gosar.house.gov
Congresswoman Debbie Lesko: Introduced H.Res. 1026, a resolution recognizing Medicare and Social Security as an important benefit that must be protected for current enrollees and strengthened for the future. Lesko said: “Social Security and Medicare are essential programs for senior citizens living on fixed incomes. Congress must fulfill its promise to our seniors by protecting these benefits for current beneficiaries and strengthening them for future generations.” See full text here.
Gov Doug Ducey: We are getting closer to Election Day. Early voting for the August 28 Primary Election begins on August 1, and our campaign continues to grow and build momentum. US Rep Martha McSally has the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Best Practices Act in response to the opioid epidemic that has plagued communities across Arizona. PDMPs are electronic databases that track opioid prescriptions in a state. This legislation would direct the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to coordinate with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop best practice guidelines to strengthen and enhance PDMPs. This legislation would also facilitate the adoption of PDMPs by all states, and create a pilot program to share PDMP data between states. “The opioid epidemic has torn apart families and ruined lives forever. 116 Americans die every day from a drug overdose. These victims come from every background - they are teachers, ranchers, retirees, and students. No parent should have to bury their own child,” said McSally. “This crisis has plagued Arizona for too long. We’ve taken steps to combat this epidemic but there’s still more work to be done. That’s why I introduced the PDMP Best Practices Act because this bill will save lives and keep prescription drugs out of the wrong hands by helping those who need it the most. PDMPs can be a powerful tool to track the diversion and misuse of controlled substances as well as harmful drug interactions.
Congressman David Schweikert: Last week my colleagues Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Martha McSally, and I introduced legislation to help fight the endemic Valley Fever infection. Arizona has been home to 68.3% of Valley Fever cases over the last 10 years. Although Valley Fever is endemic across the southwest U.S., in 2016, 6,101 cases of Valley Fever were detected in Arizona. This legislation represents a breakthrough for researchers of Valley Fever. It will support the Valley Fever Center for Excellence and hospitals that deal with Valley Fever cases by building a database for research to be shared, and to help increase awareness and knowledge of the infection. Our design for collecting critical clinical data, while protecting patient's privacy through use of blockchain, should become the future for medical research. By creating a multiparty encrypted computing system, researchers will be able to have access to answers for medical queries. I am very excited for this bipartisan legislation to be introduced in the House to inform my brothers and sisters of the fight to end Valley Fever. US Senate candidate Dr Kelli Ward: Since the beginning, one of our boldest declarations as a campaign has been "We're through with lying, fake 'conservatives.'" In fact, this was why I decided to run in the first place -- to make sure Arizonans and Americans had an honest, principled conservative they could trust to lead. Sanctuary Senator Jeff Flake failed our state and nation... and I'm convinced my opponent Martha "McAmnesty"McSally would carry on his liberal legacy. My commitment to conservative values, constitutional principles and the America First agenda has made me the Establishment's number one target in this race... in fact, Mitch McConnell wasted no time in declaring that I would not be the Republican candidate in Arizona right after Sanctuary Senator Flake announced he wouldn't be seeking reelection. But I don't need folks like Mitch McConnell to win this race... You see, since day one, an impassioned grassroots army of conservative patriots have been moving this campaign — and we aren't stopping! That's why I'm asking you to double-down and help us keep this momentum up today...Patriot, let me assure you that the opposition is terrified of our movement to put America First. With just a few days left of July, I'm urging you to join in and help us finish this month strong with an immediate contribution. We're looking to secure $50,000 dollars by months end to show the opposition we're headed to victory in the August primary. Chip in here.We continue to hold the lead but there is still a lot more that needs to be done. Thank you for your continued support -- we're in this one together!
US Senate candidate Kelli Ward: Calling out establishment politicians of both parties, the Ward for Senate campaign has released its new digital ad, “Strong Voice,” highlighting how Congress’s reckless and cavalier spending has led to a national debt that is untenable, and Dr. Ward’s plan for restoring fiscal sanity and responsibility to Washington. (Click here to watch) “Strong voice” will be distributed digitally across Arizona and on all major social media platforms.
