Reports Coming Out of the candidate roundup buffet in Yuma Friday evening reveal that things went very well… until LD13 senate candidate Brent Backus “blew his chance to impress the Yuma attendees” during his last statement when he mentioned “that his opponent (Don Shooter) was voted out of the House by the members.” Reports says there was silence for a second, then the audience let loose with “boos.” Editor’s Note: Yuma is Shooter’s stomping grounds. - ft

The Goldwater Institute announced winning an important victory last week for all Arizona taxpayers after a state court struck down a new sales tax in rural Pinal County that violated state law. In 2017, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors asked local voters to approve a new sales tax to pay for road construction and other infrastructure projects. Pinal County told voters the new tax would be collected when retail businesses sold an item worth more than $10,000. That alone violates state law by creating a new category for items to be taxed. But after voters approved the new sales tax, Pinal County pulled a switcheroo. The Board of Supervisors claimed the new sales tax actually applied to all businesses, not just retail transactions. So the Goldwater Institute sued to protect Arizona taxpayers from such unequal treatment and unfair election tactics by government agencies. Arizona Tax Court Judge Christopher Whitten ruled the new sales tax violated state law because Pinal County did not apply it as required by statute. Most remarkably, while state law required Goldwater Institute to sue the Arizona Department of Revenue, that state agency actually agreed in court that Pinal County’s new sales tax was illegal. See more Vangilder v. Arizona Department of Revenue.

Activist John Powelson: Martha McSally is trying to double talk Lou Dobbs on the border wall. McSally is a McFakerJust for the record she was an adamant “Never Trumper” saying she would vote for Hillary if he was the candidate. I will never cast a vote for Mc Sally she is another McCain for sure. Says what she needs to get elected and has no problems lying. Hope you will reconsider your vote for her. Like Marsha, I may not vote at all but will likely vote for JoeArpaio just to get someone who will back Trump when he needs it.
LD22 PC Larry Sorenson: The debate between Sandra Dowling and Debbie Lesko was very interesting to watch, live. I got the opinion that this was a very open discussion between a new representative who is getting to know how Washington can work and an impassioned opponent concerned about the issues as viewed from an Arizona perspective. On one hand was a listing of the organizations and individuals that had passed through her office including a mention of a visit from a representative of the vending machine industry. With references to these types of meetings, co-sponsoring bills and resolution writing it is clear that Debbie has hit Washington running. In the Q and A differences became apparent. It seemed as though Social Security and Medicare were the most important topics of the debate. Debbie used the term "Preserve and Protect" several times in reference to these two "benefits". When pressed she stated that this preservation would be achieved through careful oversight of the fund. Sandra, on the other hand, said that she would first assure the citizens that the fund would be theirs alone. After that, changes would have to be made so that these funds would be placed in a "Containment" account that could not be used for any purpose other than Social Security benefits, for those who paid into the fund. Her last comment on this topic dealt with the interest that these billions of dollars make indicating that these additional monies would likewise be put in the containment account so that the fund would begin to build value on its own. Overall, the debate was very informative and both candidates treated each other with respect and professionalism. I hope I have properly described what I saw and look forward to others posting their reactions too.
Activist Richard Hennessey of Prescott: In response to my friend Jim Dutton and the many other misguided supporters of Kelly Ward I have only this to say. Kelly Ward was a never Trumper until he won! Kelly Ward has changed her position on everything from the 2nd.amendment to pro life pro choice more time's than I can count. Kelly Ward is a professional politician. We all know where Joe Arpaio stands. He's been with President Trump since the very first day. The people who are against Joe were never with Trump until he won. You are the cause of the split in the Republican Party. I've voted and I voted for Joe. I would encourage all true Trump supporters and true conservatives to do the same.
Activist Priscilla Salmon: "It is time for Phillip Woolbright to move on. The voters trusted Woolbright during the 2010 election, and his actions less than one year in office proved to us we were wrong. Woolbright duped us. He is not the caliber of person to represent the court as a Justice of the Peace. Public records outline Woolbright’s actions unbecoming of a judge. Some examples include (1) violation of court order [showing up at his estranged wife’s home in violation of an oder of protection], (2) abuse of his position [offering to sign search warrant regarding his estranged wife and asking police to ping her cell phone for location], (3) handling cases improperly [jailing a lady without a plea], (4) judicial misconduct [coercing a witness to change testimony], and (5) dodging a process server. Woolbright even completed the judicial training school more than once which is rare for judges in Arizona. There’s a saying – fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Woolbright and his campaign arrogance, lies, and feigning humility do not fool me. Woolbright is a DISGRACED FORMER JUDGE and should remain just that. He only has himself to blame. He needs to take his fake humility, lies, and sense of entitlement and move on. Find another job Woolbright, because Justice of the Peace is not for you!"
Tom Morrissey, Past Chairman AZ GOP: Former PC Wayne Blair's comment about Joe Arpaio being a RINO, in league with John McCain, is about the silliest and most wrong-headed assessment of this man that I have ever read. Blair should really have checked his facts before making such an asinine statement. Joe Arpaio has borne the brunt of the Establishment Elite every moment of his time as sheriff. It was they who, in my opinion, ultimately succeeded in bringing the ACLU based court case against him, for doing the job he was elected to do. Joe stood side by side with me when I faced an all-out assault from the Establishment when I was chairman of the AZ GOP and he never blinked when they and the Obama Administration did everything they could to stop him from protecting the citizens of Maricopa County (and the rest of the country) from the crime that was pouring over our southern border. He stood with President (then candidate) Trump from day one - and I know this because I was standing there with him and Jeff DeWitt. He has been saying and doing what our president is saying and doing today, for over 20 years. Joe is running because he believes that he can be an asset to the president in the US Senate because he believes in the man and his mission and he knows what needs to be done to guarantee its success. He is not trying to split the conservative vote. Rather he is trying to bring that seat back from the Establishment to the Grassroots. I can't believe that this even needs to be said, but sadly it does.
Zack Taylor, NAFBPO Chairman: When you hear us say that Congress is Tone Deaf here is an example of what we are talking about. Simply talking about any benefit for illegal aliens brings more illegal aliens and emboldens those already here to stay in violation of law.The administration should appeal the DACA decision to the Supreme Court and give the DACA registrants the opportunity to leave voluntarily. Anything less simply encourages more lawlessness and Congress continues to encourage lawlessness even beyond the ’86 Amnesty when they should have learned better.Too much money involved we have to assume because what Congress is doing is not in the best interest of American citizens.SeeThe Daca-Sword-Of DamoclesA solution worse than the problem is hanging over America's head. Editor’s Note: Taylor is chairman of the National Assoc of Former Border Patrol Officers.
Former Maricopa County Chairman Rob Haney: I receive reports similar to this on a daily basis. So much so, I have stopped sending them out. But since this is from my home state and is so vast, I feel compelled to send it on. I have no earthly idea of how it can be cleaned up. It is rot from the top of the Church Hierarchy. We have no way of voting them out. We pray for the Holy Spirit to dive them out and for righteous men to replace them. #CatholicMeToo: Will Cdl. Correction: The 8-4-18 Briefs errantly referred to candidate Steve Smith as a senate candidate. Smith is currently an AZ Senator who is running for Congressional District 1 (CD1). ft
CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: I am the only candidate who is running hard enough to beat Tom O’Halleran and flip AZ-01 from blue to red in November! I am currently in the middle of 20 events in 10 days around our district. Now, you must understand that our district is as big as the State of Georgia - it’s the 11th largest House district in the country. While my competitors don’t do events meeting voters, and complain when they have to drive to see the people in our district, I can do this because I fly! Remember, I was one of the first female combat pilots in the Air Force. I have a plane and can fly to the far-flung parts of our district to talk with people and hear their concerns. That way they know that I will represent them- because I will go to their towns and show them I care for their communities. I will listen to their concerns, in person. In fact, my barnstorming our district has landed me in places like Page and Eager, where I was able to meet the mayor and vice-mayor and get their endorsements on the spot! I can get these endorsements, and get these rural communities excited about this race, by showing up and letting them see that someone DOES care about them: Friend, no one else can do this. When you compare the attention I give to all the parts of our district to the sad-sack no-show act by Tom O'Halleran, you can see why folks are excited about my campaign. Twenty events in ten days, because you deserve better than liberal Tom O’Halleran. Can you help me? Your donation will help me keep my ad on the air, and my airplane IN the air. It will help show folks why this district needs to flip. wendyrogers.org. Come help me flip AZ-01 from blue to red!
US Senate candidate Martha McSally: Kyrsten Sinema and Chuck Schumer just launched their next wave of attacks, and they're using special interest groups and dark money to do it. A new liberal Super PAC backing Democrat Krysten Sinema just dropped $879,000 on TV ads falsely attacking Martha for next week! Yes, you read that correctly, they are going to spend almost $1 MILLION on TV ads attacking Martha next week and this is just the beginning. We've got to strike back now to set the record straight. Will you chip in to help us launch an immediate rapid response? The primary is less than one month away and the Left is trying to rig this primary against Martha because they'd rather face anyone else in the general election. That's why dark money PACs are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on false attacks aimed at destroying Martha's reputation. We've got to respond immediately to set the record straight, and need your help to amplify our message far and wide. chip in The Left is blatantly trying to buy this race and the Senate majority so they can install a political puppet to do their bidding, but with your support, we're going to fight back and deliver the Democrats their most expensive defeat yet. Martha is on the campaign trail everyday fighting for us, and it's our turn to stand up and fight for her. Are you with us, Friend? - Anthony Barry, Deputy Campaign Manager
CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: Friend, voting has begun! While I am leading in the polls and in fundraising, we have to work hard while people are still voting! I always run through the finish line, and that’s why I am working to be on the air all the way until August 28. I am up with a NEW AD right now! Check it out! We are down to crunch time. I am leading now, and people are voting, but the Swamp has been known to pull a dirty trick or two…. So I know that we need to keep this ad on that air all the way to August 28! Will you send me some emergency help to keep this great ad on the air? In fact, because it attacks liberal Pelosi Democrat Tom O’Halleran, we can keep it up past Primary Day. Help to make sure we can nail down a win in the Primary AND the general with this great ad? But wait..... I have MORE good news!I am honored to have Former Apache County Supervisor Doyel Shamley's endorsement.
Apparently, one of my opponents claimed Doyel's endorsement a couple of weeks ago, but that is not true. Doyel is on #TeamWendy. Thank you, Doyel, for all your hard work in Apache County!
Friend, this is it. I am going all out here, barnstorming this massive district, for YOU. Twenty events in ten days, because you deserve better than liberal Tom O’Halleran. You deserve better than Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters. We HAVE to beat this guy. I am already taking the fight right to him. Can you help me? Your emergency donation will help me keep my ad on the air- right when Tom O'Halleran thought it was safe to vacation, because of Nancy Pelosi's support. . Come help me flip AZ-01 from blue to red! wendyrogers.orgYou can vote by mail or on election day which is Tues, Aug 28th. contribution

Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: Our city is facing a crisis of leadership, our police are understaffed, and our streets desparately need to be repaved. Please see the letter I just sent to the city manager regarding these concerns. Dear Ed: “The council went through a significant strategic plan session. You were given clear instructions to come back with a plan on each of the items that we agreed needed significant improvement in the city of Phoenix. The items that were listed at the top were funding for police and we wanted to see the City of Phoenix do a better job putting together a better plan based on outcomes. Second, we directed you to come up with a plan to pave and fix all of our streets. Third, we highlighted the fact that we felt there were significant problems with the management team. Could you please give me an update on each of those issues and the others that were highlighted in our meeting”
