Republican Briefs
Editor’s Note: Several readers have asked why the Removal of AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines petition includes the removal of the First and Second Vice Chairman as well… so Briefs asked Removall petition spokesman Marianne Ferrari for an explanation. Her response:
If we remove only Lines, the 1st vice chair becomes chair and all will remain exactly the same: Matthew Kenney will remain executive director. The donors will still be in charge, via McCain, who will still have full control over the party. Same with the 2nd vice chair. They were both on the Lines slate. In essence, all this work we are doing, all this effort, will have been for naught. But, worse, the party will be placed in a strange limbo. Here's why: The bylaws say that if you remove the chair, the 1st vice chair rises to chair and must immediately call a Special Meeting to elect a new chair, 45 days hence.
That will take us to November 14th, which is less than 90 days from the MandatoryMeeting. According to the bylaws, if it is less than 90 days, we have to hold that election at the Mandatory Meeting in late January. So, the party would continue in the hands of Matthew Kenney for all that time—Mathew Kenney, an un-elected, unaccountable former PAC fundraiser whose ascent to that office was insisted upon by equally un-elected and unaccountable donors who probably don’t live in Arizona.I’ll wager that 1st vice chair Parralee Schneider, the newly ascended temporary chairman, would probably never need to enter the 24th St. HQ building. McCain would continue to rule the affairs of our party, as would the donors.
Seeing the outline of that outcome, our purpose in removing all three officers becomes clear. While we are fully cognizant of Lines' breaches of the By-laws, Lines himself is not the core reason for the special meeting to remove. From our point of view, he is one part of a horrendous whole that is strangling the Republican party of Arizona. We care about the direction of the party, which has been downward under Robert Graham, and increasingly so, under Lines. You can’t argue with statistics. The decline must be turned around, if the party and the conservative majority in Arizona are to survive. The obvious fix is a change in the leadership, and, even before questions of malfeasance. I do believe that our AZ party is declining because of the policies of these people. But we have zero obligation to prove that, per the By-laws. We just need to vote to remove them, the only way to reclaim the Arizona GOP. the-case-for-removal-part-3; why-remove-all-3-top-elected-officers
LD21 PC Randy Miller: There was a letter in Republican Briefs yesterday 8-4-17-Briefs that really got me going. Do I believe it was time for Arpaio to go, yes but not because he wouldn't listen to the administration's order to stand down on immigration checks. This is separate from the court order. The order he violated was based on how he was doing it.
Former Graham County Sheriff Richard Mack: Arpaio or any other sheriff is not "subject to federal direction." I told him this several times, but he could not get his attorneys to listen to it. I told him to challenge jurisdiction but they also failed to do that. Now it's all rather moot as he could never repeat the behavior; he will never be sheriff again. Bottom line, a federal judge has no authority to tell a sheriff how he must do his job. If Joe had committed a felony then he could be summoned to an AZ court, but it is none of the feds' business. Editor’s Note: Mack is the founder of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officer (CSPOA)
LD22 PC Captain and SC Lori Hack responds to Clair Van Steenwyk8-4-17-Briefs: Please, no sour grapes from you - I am really not interested. You are a career political candidate that Arizonans continue to reject at every turn. Further, Dr. www.KelliWard.com is a formidable and credible candidate to fire FakeFlake from office in 2018. Learn to see the truth and help good people win.
LD22 PC Captain And SC Lori Hack Responds To Jacqueline Leslie : My original response on 8-3-17 Briefs remains - I have no further comment. As for the delegate process, you might want to do your homework and see how it actually worked at the time before making false accusations and acting as though you know the process. Real Republicans aren't that gullible! Have a blessed day.
LD21PC Randy Miller Response (Last) To Chris Herring: Chris, you ask why I didn’t call to discuss your public comments designed to influence the outcome on a yet to be decided election, as a newly elected County Chairman. I did this for the same reason you chose not to call me or your friends on Facebook and post you disdain about a party candidate for state chairman. I wanted to reach a large audience that has an interest in what is going on. As far as it being published and printed from Facebook, what did you think was going to happen since you held title of “County Chairman”? Doesn’t matter since you “stand by” what you said. That’s all you need to say rather than get off subject about the current recall efforts, my letter wasn’t concerning this, it was about character of office and of the man based on “out of the box” behavior. As far as “not disrupting the Republican Party”, there are many of us who think the party needs disruption because they are imploding and those that don’t see it or want to hide it - then tell us “there is nothing to see here move on” are part of the problem. This is also a contradiction to your interjection during an ongoing election and your desire to “Not disrupt”. I thank you for answering my question.
LD11 PC Jill Henderson Responding To LD22 PC Clair Van Steenwyk8-4-17-Briefs: I find it hilarious that perennial candidate Van Steenwyk is attempting to give anyone advice on running a campaign, after all, as SeeingRedAZ explains in Perennial candidate Van Steenwyk aids McCain, "Though Clair Van Steenwyk engenders little support and wins even fewer votes, the narcissistic 70-year-old retiree who held a variety of unrelated jobs during his younger years, is much like a spoiled child craving attention. He struts and prances saying little of consequence, but clearly relishing his serial moments in the political spotlight."
And Van Steenwyk: Political ambition knows no bounds 6/7/16... "The Sun City West resident known as Van the Radio Man wears a lot of hats. He is renown for his colossal ego and as a dedicated vote splitting spoiler on behalf of John McCain. He is also known as a perennial candidate who has never won a single race he’s entered."
Furthermore, "Van the Radio Man" claiming in 8-4-17 Briefs that "we all know that McCain received 51% to Ward's 36%" is incorrect. In fact, despite 2 spoiler candidates in the race, she received 39.9% of the vote compared to Van's laughable 3.6%. (see: Primary/ElectionInformation
Former LD22 PC Brian Reilly: In 8-4-17 Briefs LD 21 PC Randy Miller asked: “You’re saying that Arpaio’s refusal to let the federal government dictate to him is his guilt? Really?“What I wrote, Court Exhibit 37, the series of Arpaio videos, clearly show Arpaio’s mindset that apparently led to Sheriff Arpaio’s failure to comply, for nearly 18 months, with a federal court ordered injunction not to detain or arrest individuals without probable cause that they had committed a crime. Arpaio’s guilt was found in his intentional failure to comply with a legitimate federal court order, which originally resulted from Arpaio’s apparent failure to follow the 4th Amendment to the United States Constitution regarding detaining people without probable cause. To quote an excerpt of Judge Bolton’sFindings of Fact and Conclusions of Law (linked below): “The evidence at trial proves beyond a reasonable doubt and the Court finds that Judge Snow issued a clear and definite order enjoining Defendant from detaining persons for further investigation without reasonable suspicion that a crime has been or is being committed….Because the court finds that the Defendant willfully violated an order of the court, it finds Defendant guilty of criminal contempt.” Randy, I would hope that you respect the constitutional rights of people who are illegally detained without probable cause that a crime has been or is being committed. The color of one’s skin, in and of itself, is not probable cause to detain or arrest any individual. And for the record, Arpaio finally did comply with the order, albeit too late: On May 28, 2013, the MCSO issued the following: “By order of Sheriff Arpaio, effective immediately, no MCSO personnel shall detain any person…unless probable cause to arrest or detain exists under Arizona criminal law.” (Govt. Exhibit 46). Apparently, Arpaio thought the court's order was lawful. Arpaio-Criminal-Contempt-Verdict
