AZSOS Settles Lawsuit - Applicants Must Prove Citizenship To Receive A Ballot: Nearly 5 Years To The Day after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling set up a dual-track system of elections in Arizona, the state has settled a related lawsuit and has ensured each applicant’s eligibility to participate in state or federal elections will be verified before the individual’s registration becomes active. The bifurcated voting system arose out of a conflict between a 2004 voter approved ballot initiative requiring proof of citizenship when registering and a Supreme Court decision that mandated the state process individuals who register to vote with a federal form without establishing citizenship. The lawsuit filed by the League of United Latin American Citizens and Arizona Students’ Association, claimed the state’s voter registration process was unduly burdensome, was formally settled on June 4. “We’ve worked hard to settle this lawsuit and are extremely pleased with the result,” said Secretary Reagan.   “The registration system will now verify the eligibility of each and every person who has yet to provide evidence of citizenship.  With this agreement in place we’ll have confirmed an individual’s eligibility before issuing them a ballot with any state elections listed.  While the Supreme Court has ordered Arizona to allow people who have not provided such proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, it’s a relief the system will now proactively verify eligibility for all applicants. We’ve always said that it should be easy to vote and hard to cheat. I’m proud to say this compromise achieves both.  Voters will now have the clarity they need along with a heightened level of election integrity.” www.azsos.gov (602) 542-4285.

NOTES FROM READERS

Opinions expressed by readers are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Commentary running over 400 words is subject to editing. Briefs posts candidate announcements, but does not endorse candidates, nor do we post endorsement statements. - ft.

Former two-term Maricopa County Republican Chairman Rob Haney: The latest mid June approval ratings show AZ voters rate Governor Doug Ducey at 31%.  And only 26% believe he deserves to be re-elected. This may reflect his failure to stand up to the anti-gun lobby and his cave-in to the union government employees who violated their contract and illegally went on strike. Or it may reflect Ducey's close ties to the McCain syndicate of corruption. In any case, we need a conservative who is not beholding to the Republican Establishment just like Trump. That Constitutional Conservative is Ken Bennett and he is running under the "Clean Elections" provisions of AZ law and needs us to give $5 contributions for him to qualify for campaign funds as he explains in his attached memo.   Please click on the link indicated and give him $5 so we can get this show on the road.  Also, consider giving him seed money as I have done. When we have a candidate who is willing to stand up to the political machine, the least we can do is support him with a $5 donation. Please do it now.

LD27 PC Art Olivas: Well Frosty, you can say that I am right down disgusted with the RINOs that run the AZGOP and just about to give up on our LD27. I have been to HQ. at 24th St. 3 times to get help in my run for PC in LD27. They ask for my name, address, phone # and e-mail followed by a song and dance of Chairman Lines not being in the office but has been working hard for us. When I asked what is he doing? I get no answer. I ask for a walk list for my precinct I get walked over to the printer by someone who knows not how to work it and then tells me he will email to me and never does. Now about LD27's Meetings our Chairman is almost never in attendance; most of the time he is out of the U.S.A. When I ask where is he? He has business - I think they say in  Columbia. If he was not going to come to the meeting why did the LD27 click vote for him? I had never heard of him. We are down to about 14 PCs per meeting from about 75-80 per meeting. If that was not bad enough, after all the park parties that I have been against -- our treasure has gone down from about $3,500 to $1,600. The LD27 click knows what we have to do but nobody wants to do it and if someone steps up they get no help - so they volunteer no more! As my run for PC in my precinct. When I have asked for help from our Chairman He says he will get back to me but never does! No walking list from him. This is the way it is. Now I ask how can we fix our party if we can't fix our own LDs? I have asked you to stop following lobbyist and endorsers, they are looking out for themselves not for you! You have to get off you’re a** and research for yourself. When you follow like a puppy you will be treated worse then a dog!! you can take that to the bank!! I say what I mean and I mean what I say el tudy Mexican bandit- Arthur Olivas Jr.

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ehl: We could be headed downhill like a snow ball headed for hell.   While POTUS Trump paints a positive picture of the status of our nation, it falls on deaf ears of the ‘obstructionist!  Couple that with the, now, Democrat   Obstructionist Party and the self aggrandizing Republican party.  To start with, looks like the Democrats (and RINOs) object to anything President Trump does, period. Look at the dysfunctional Republicans in congress who can’t get their act together on immigration.  Look what happened in the NY primary where a top ranked Democrat was defeated by a socialist.    And ICE??  And more!!!!Signs are everywhere that the attack by the millenniums is on.  As Maggie Thatcher said, “Socialism only works until the money runs out!”  And when the U.S. can no longer support the welfare system for illegals, free college,  and other government ‘handouts’, what happens then???This being an election year, has anyone seen an aggressive Get out  the vote (GOTV)  program by the AZGOP?IF the laid back county chairs comprised the AZGOP executive committee, they could meet and come up with a plan to have every precinct committeeman contact EVERY registered Republican voter in the state, by telephone, U.S. mail, email, or door to door, and impress on the voters just how important this of year election could be.  Lay out some details!  Don’t wait until the ‘blue wave’ hits us!!  The millenniums and obstructionist are coming for us.   Just watch and see what happens at the Supreme court selectee hearing!

AZRRT CALL TO ACTION – BALLOT MEASURES -Jose Borrajerojoseb4538@gmail.com

1. AZ is one of the states in which legislation is not limited to the state legislature. Citizens are allowed to create law, and we are in the process of doing.
1. HOW TO SUBMIT ARGUMENTS PRO OR CON – BALLOT MEASURES:Arguments may be submitted to the Secretary of State for inclusion on the information pamphlet that will go to all voters prior to the election. To submit arguments and to read the rules and requirements, go to
https://ballotarguments.az.gov/All the information needed may be obtained at that site, including a list of all propositions, but there are four important points to keep in mind.
1. The deadline to submit arguments is July 11
2. The deadline to submit signatures is July 5. We may not know if a measure has made it to the ballot until then.
3. Arguments limited to 300 word, the shorter the better as long as the points are well made.
4. There is a fee of $75 for each argument submitted.
With this in mind, AZRRT suggests the following course of action:
1. Begin the process today. Do not wait until July 5 to begin the process. Since the window is so small, waiting may not allow enough time to do a proper job.
2. Choose the propositions to be responded to, pro or con.
3. Begin gathering talking points and developing a strong argument.
4. Very important. We should not be just trying to make a point. Our goal should be to convince voters. While many of us would love to offend the other side, for this purpose persuasion is the key. Save the offensive language for other occasions.
5. Submit arguments to the SoS once you have a good indication that the chosen proposition(s) will be on the ballot. This could be as late as July 5.
2. AZRRT SUGGESTIONS ON THREE IMPORTANT BALLOT MEASURE
National Popular Vote. “NO”. Talking points at National-Popular-Vote

Tax Increase For Education. “NO”. Talking points at ED-tax-increase
Clean Elections Reform. “YES”. Talking points at Clean-Elections.doc

ELECTED OFFICALS COMMENTARY

Congresswoman Debbie Lesko introduced her first bill (June 28) since being sworn into Congress. H.R. 6259, the Make Education Local Act of 2018, would allow individual states to submit their own education plans, known as a State Management Decision, to the Secretary of Education. After approval by the Department of Education, all federal funding programs would roll into one pot of money for the state to implement their individualized education plan. “Our children are our future, and it is important that each child have access to high-quality education free from Washington mandates,” said Lesko. “Arizonans know their schools better than any bureaucrat. My bill will allow individual states to submit their own education policy plan to the Secretary of Education to free up dollars so funding will go directly to students and teachers instead of being spent to comply with federal regulators. This bill is just the first step in improving and strengthening education in Arizona classrooms. I will continue to work with local leaders and education advocates to do more to improve education for all of our students. We are committed to fixing our entire education system so that it works for each student.” Original cosponsors of H.R. 6259 include Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Rep. Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04), Rep. Martha McSally (AZ-02), and Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-06).

CANDIDATE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Editor’s Note: Please keep announcement to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft

CD1 candidate Tiffany Shedd: I’m Tiffany Shedd. My roots in Arizona go back over 100 years. Living and working on a 4th generation cotton farm, my heart belongs to rural Arizona. But our way of life is being threatened. That’s why I’m running for Congress in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. Arizona deserves a leader who understands our way of life. As a constitutional conservative, no longer can I just sit aside and watch politicians from out of town run for office for the mere purpose of progressing their own careers rather than the lives of the people in this district. We can secure our border, we will take care of our veterans, and as an NRA certified shooting instructor, I’ll defend our gun rights.I am running for Congress to bring real representation to rural Arizona.I hope that you will join me in this fight to Defend the West.

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Editor’s Note: Please keep opinion pieces to 400 words. If extended, they will be subject to editing. Opinions expressed below are not necessarily those of the Briefs. Briefs does not endorse candidates. – ft

House candidate Stuart McDaniel: Early ballots go out on August 1st and I need your help!  Please consider making a donation today. I need all the help and support to fight for conservative values in rural Arizona. Over the last week, I've received new endorsements and have been busy in our community! In case you missed it, I was on KAFF Country radio to discuss the campaign and legislative priorities. You can listen here You can also hear me on The Big Talker with Jeff Oravits at 97.1FM, Live streaming here Our new yard signs are in! If you are interested in displaying a sign, please contact me at info@mcdanielforhouse.com. Thank you!

LD20 Senate candidate Charles Loftus: No politics. No solicitation.  Tomorrow is the most significant holiday to the United States of America there is. I hope you enjoy, have fun and celebrate with all of us "Americans" the absolutely amazing thing that is and that created America.   It is worth protecting.

US Senate candidate Martha McSally: President Trump has already appointed one strong conservative to the Supreme Court and has put together a list of highly qualified potential nominees. Friend, we are truly at a historic moment in our nation's history. This is the greatest opportunity in several generations to return our nation to the ideals we were founded upon. President Trump has the opportunity to put forth another Supreme Court justice who has a constitutional interpretation faithful to the Framer's original design — a design that promotes self-government, liberty, and equality under law. Remember, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, who has proven himself to be a powerful constitutionalist leader on the Supreme Court, was confirmed by less than 10 votes. Now the Senate is gearing up to push through another conservative Supreme Court justice with the possibility of more retirements before the end of President Trump's first term. In addition, there are countless other federal circuit and appellate court positions still awaiting to be filled because Democrat obstructionists are holding them up. But it all comes down to how the Arizona Senate seat falls in the 2018 midterm election. If Chuck Schumer wins the Democrat majority, Kyrsten Sinema will fall in line with Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren and keep President Trumps future nominees from ever seeing the bench. We are doing everything we can to win on the ground across the state, but the national Democrat establishment is doing all they can to stop us. We are counting on people like YOU to step up to help today, Friend. Whether you can contribute $5, $50 or $500, it will go directly toward funding our efforts here on the ground in Arizona. donate

ELECTED OFFICIALS COMMENTARY

Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: Phoenix is closing on the downtown Sheraton sale, remember that the real loss to taxpayers is $252 Million. The politicians and government staff who pushed this hotel are now forcing the public to pay for their mistakes. I have submitted a public information request to the city manager demanding the names of each and every person-- politicians and government staff alike-- who pushed for this hotel originally. It is not fair for the public to continue to pay for the incompetence of people who were hired to serve them. This is the final, sad chapter in an orgy of corporate welfare and insider dealing that has cost the citizens of Phoenix far more than anyone at City Hall will admit.Inept staff who insisted on making this deal are claiming the loss is $36 Million, but the true total is much higher.
$350 million-- original cost of the hotel
$255 million-- sale price of the hotel
$95 million loss
But it gets worse. Taxpayers are also on the hook for:
$47 million-- operational losses since hotel was built
$97 million-- corporate tax giveaways
$13 million-- the hotel fund that was handed over to a large corporation
$157 million in additional losses
Bringing the total loss to taxpayers up to $252 million. Even using their numbers, anyone in the private sector who did a deal like this would get fired in a heartbeat for such a loss. Yet the politicians and city staff do it, and are never held accountable. How many cops could $252 million have added to our force? How many miles of paving?
How many units of low-income housing? Those are real things our citizens will never get because of this deal.
